Overview

Developer: Interplay
Giants official page: http://www.interplay.com/giants/index1.html

What happens when you combine a bunch of developers that have created some of the most interesting games in the industry? With games like MDK and Earthworm Jim under their belt there can only be one result -- something even more bizarre: Giants: Citizen Kabuto. Giants is a mix of comedy and action that greatly resembles the previous games made by this team. Giants has had two years worth of pre-release press, but does the game live up to the hype?

The Low Down

We're all familiar with the classical issue of personal space. The general case being, you don't want anyone in your little space sphere. We all know of the person that leans in a bit too close when talking to you. They have that overwhelming urge to stick their face in yours when they speak. Normally we just take a step back to rectify the issue. Occasionally the solution isn't that simple and we have to use the dreaded FS "back-up-off-me" slap.

Take this concept and apply it to something a bit bigger and you have the problem that the Sea Reapers have. The Sea Reapers, a race of blue semi-naked females, had some trouble keeping their island to themselves. It seems a group of Meccaryn vacationers had stranded themselves on the island and have made themselves at home.

In response to the threat of the usual pillaging and plundering, the Sea Reapers created a creature that would defend them. They gave life to the Giant Kabuto. Unfortunately, this lumbering beast decided that he wasn't going to be his masters' guard dog and went his own way. To put it lightly, this meant trouble for just about every living being in Kabuto's path. As a result the Giant forced the Sea Reapers off their own island and into the sea.

Who are these Meccaryn vacationers? There are five altogether: Baz, Tel, Reg, Gordon, and Bennett. Their vacation on the Planet Majorca didn't go very well. They were attacked by a giant gibbon fish and spent two months of their glorious vacation being digested. Following their expulsion, their only goal is to repair their ship and get home. Unfortunately, the Sea Reapers don't take kindly to unwelcome visitors.
