The Real Driving Simulator
GT3 claims to be "The Real Driving Simulator." Polyphony Digital paid close attention to accurate driving mechanics. You won't be taking your sharp turns full speed or indiscriminately powerslide and drift without practice. Novices to the series will probably find themselves using the brake frequently and spinning out from the sensitive but realistic steering to movement. Being a simulator, this also means that the performance for each car is fairly accurately modeled and that you will end up buying TRD and Nismo components for your Altezza (IS300) or Skyline. There are some minor flaws to the realism such as allowing the chipping of cars probably too old to have a real Engine Computer System, but the only blatant exception to the rule is the lack of car damage and crashes. Part of the reason is that many car manufacturers wouldn't license the cars to Polyphony Digital if they were to be shown damaged, and perhaps more importantly, the developers didn't want the word "simulator" translated into "boring."
Vehicles
Almost 190 cars have been included in GT3 with most of the major manufacturers represented. The range is fairly eclectic ranging from the Mazda Demio (
think MPV on a diet) to more traditional sports cars such as the Integra Type-R and Corvette C5R, and more exotic vehicles such as the Shelby Cobra, and Aston Martin Vanquish V12. While 190 cars may seem like a lot, this is actually fewer than the number of cars in GT2 and Polyphony Digital double counts more than a few (VW Beetle 2.0 and VW Beetle Rsi, Calsonic and Zexel Skylines, etc.). There are a few obvious omissions such as the BMW M-series, the Honda Prelude, and Ferraris but you should still be able to find one of your favorite cars in the game.
