Intro
With all the hype surrounding WarCraft III, and its promised blend of real-time strategy and role-playing, it's probably a good time to release an RPS (role-playing strategy) game, right? Gathering of Developers thinks so and they've delivered, getting Kingdom Under Fire out the door well ahead of WarCraft III, Dungeon Siege, and all the other RPS hybrids still in the works.
A good marketing strategy? You bet - right now KUF is the only RPS game in town and GOD is hoping that the WarCraft III fans out there might want to play something else while they wait. They're probably right; I only wish that they had released a better game

Story
The game takes place on the continent of Bersiah. It's a standard fantasy world, populated with Humans, Elves, Orcs, Ogres, and the like. Of course the good creatures (Humans, for instance) don't play nice with the bad creatures (like Orcs) and great wars have been fought in the past. The game starts at the end of a long period of peace. A new enemy has taken control of the evil forces and banded them together to destroy the nice races.

As you play through the game it gets a little more complicated, but never really very interesting. There are some twists in the plot, and a few betrayals and surprises, but nothing to make Peter Jackson want to direct the trilogy, if you know what I mean.

It's also hard to take a story seriously when the names of the characters are so incredibly silly. I know that character names really shouldn't matter, but when they're as ridiculous as these I just can't keep a straight face. The main bad guy's handle, for instance, is Rick Blood…ugh. Then there's Moonlight the magician and Likuku - pretty sad.
