Big Ass Robots
What are combots?
The core of every army in Metal Fatigue are the two story tall "Com-bots" Don't dismiss this game as a Mechcommander clone though - combots in Metal Fatigue are unique in that they are totally modular. Each arm can carry a weapon or a shield, and each combot also has unique legs and a special item as well. Weapons range from short range melee weapons like a giant axe, or laser sword (light saber), to ranged weapons like sniper guns and missile launchers. To make a combot, you simply select two arm pieces, a leg type (fast, power, etc), and a special item like a jet pack or cloaking device. Your factories then synthesize your custom combots; with the number of different weapons and item types there are hundreds of possibilities.

Cannibalizing parts
What's cool about the combots' modularity is that in battle, limbs will fall off of you and your enemies. If you win a battle, you can have a combot of yours detach one of his arms and exchange it for one lying on the field. Alternatively, you can call in one of your hover trucks and have the robot pieces taken back to your research facilities. You'll want to do this to assimilate enemy technologies that you don't have yet. Obviously this kind of modularity opens up new doors regarding strategy.

Punch or shoot?
Since combots can carry both melee and ranged weapons, this begs the question - how do your combots decide whether to attack aggressively and run in close, or run away and shoot from afar? The answer lies in the AI. You can set the combot's AI mode to decide for itself which is best, or you can set it to always use the ranged weapon or always run up and use its close in weapons. These settings are located in the right hand side and are accessible through hotkeys as well.
