Introduction

Developer: Looking Glass and Irrational Games
Publisher: Electronic Arts
System Shock 2 official page: http://www.shock2.com
Expected Release: August 1999

A Shocking Development

The original System Shock was a game ahead of its time. When it came out in 1994, System Shock wowed gamers with its 3D environment, persistent levels, and innovative gameplay model. It was one of the first games where you weren't mucking around with keys and finding doors, you actually had to hack into computer systems and use your head, not just your guns, to make it through. There really haven't been many games that have compared to System Shock (Half-Life maybe, but HL is much more action oriented), so you can see why all the hardcore fans of the original System Shock are frothing at the mouth with anticipation for the sequel, based on Thief's Dark engine.

What should I pick?

Don't pigeonhole me

System Shock 2, like its predecessor, defies categorization. With elements of adventure, action, and role playing, System Shock 2 is poised to give gamers an immersive game play experience even beyond that of Thief or Half-Life. With its compelling storyline, clean graphics, role playing elements (assume characteristics of 3 different player classes), and unique gameplay, System Shock 2 promises to be one of this year's big hits.
