Top 10 PC Games of 2009
I've been handling the game reviews here on FiringSquad for a few months now, and boy, has it been a crazy time for releases. It seems all the major players these days are aiming to bring down big sales numbers during the holiday shopping season, so I can't cover them all. Still, it should come as no surprise that the majority of the games in the Top 10 have been released within the past 3 1/2 months. On the other hand, many AAA titles that were aiming for release before the new year have been marginally delayed, which means the avalanche isn't over yet!
The list is not limited to games I have officially reviewed, so you will find a few that have been out since earlier in the year. Additionally, I've come up with a few ancillary awards beyond the standard honorable mentions that should be fun. If you have any ideas for other categories, perhaps we could add them in, or else use them for next year. Anyhow, without further ado, on to the countdown!
#10 - Demigod
Based on the popular WarCraft III custom map Defense Of The Ancients, Demigod revolves around the namesake heroes' epic struggle to prove their worth, earn the favor of the gods, and ascend to divinity. The release of this RPG/RTS from Gas Powered Games came and went with little fanfare, but it should not be overlooked by fans of competitive tactical strategy. Just a few weeks ago, version 1.2 was released that adds a new playable demigod, the Demon Assassin, with another one in the works.
DOTA die-hards will appreciate this professional remake for all of the enhancements made to a familiar gameplay style, as well as its modern graphics and sound. New-comers may be put off by the lack of tutorial or single-player campaign, but if you've ever played an RTS before, you won't be a fish out of water for long. As an added plus, the game sells for only $30 on the
official website.
