Why's Brandon Writing A Gaming Article?
I know what you're thinking right now, "What's a hardware nut doing writing a game review?" With the gaming guys pressed for time, and myself needing a break from the constant deluge of hardware coming in for review, I wanted to try something new.
When someone suggested that we (FS) write our thoughts on Unreal Tournament (UT) for PS2, I figured I'd give it a try. After all, my impressions of the game were very pleasant when the demo was initially released.

A Little Disclaimer
Before I get into my thoughts on this game, I'd like to point out that this article is based on the thoughts of a PC gamer, not that of a person who enjoys playing first-person shooters on the console. While I have spent countless hours playing Goldeneye on the N64 (and loved every moment of it!), I am by no means an authority on gaming when it comes to consoles. Goldeneye was the only shooter that really sold me on the console. (I never got a chance to try Perfect Dark, although I hear it's a really good game.)
Contrary to most of our articles, I'll also be writing this review in a first person tone to get the idea across that these are my thoughts on the game, and may not jive with what you'd read in an ordinary review of the game in a console magazine.
For this review, I will try to explain in detail what it was like to play the game, both in single player and multiplayer modes, as well as summarize the thoughts of some of the console staff over at Gamers.com, who are hardcore console players. This should give you a good idea of what to expect; if it doesn't you can always check out the screenshots and movies (which we'll be posting a little later) we've included with this article.

Back To The Subject…
In a mild bit of irony, when the Playstation 2 launches this Thursday, Epic (the makers of UT) will be going up against another heavy-hitter in the first person shooter department, much like UT went up against Quake 3 on the PC last fall. This time around, Epic's primary competition won't be from the crew at id Software, rather, from some of the makers of the aforementioned console hits Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.
Just who is this new challenger to Epic's reign on the PS2? Free Radical Design, and the name of their game is TimeSplitters. While the game isn't quite as oriented for multiplayer gaming as UT, PS2 players are bound to begin debating both games when the console launches on Thursday.
