About the New Toys

You will find many of these features on other GeForce based cards because they all use NVIDIA's GeForce 256 chip. If your GeForce card doesn't have two thirds of that spec list, then you might have purchased a GeFarce on accident.

The sheer amount of video output and input connections on the ASUS card is a sight to behold. The ASUS Deluxe has the VR 3-D glasses connector, S-Video output, an RCA video out, and to put a cherry on top a video-in port. Few GeForce cards have TV-outputs, and only one other, which also happens to be an ASUS card, has video inputs. For gaming we don't need all these newfangled options, but I'm not complaining. It's always nice to get a product you know is at the top of its' game, and still has that added "mine is better than yours" factor.

The V6800 Deluxe is almost identical to the V6600 Deluxe and you can read about the shared features in our original V6600 Deluxe review. The only real difference between the cards is the type of memory. The V6600 uses plain old SDR (single data rate) memory and the V6800 uses DDR (double data rate) memory. DDR effectively doubles the amount of memory bandwidth available, allowing cards to sustain higher resolutions without a huge performance hit.

 Random Opinion
The ASUS boxes don't really get the testosterone flowing like the Diamond boxes. The Diamond boxes appeal to that big explosion/jet/gonna-kick-some-butt aspect in me.
