The Wave Generator
What?? Another GeForce 2 GTS card?
Just when you thought it was safe to read a review, ASUS springs yet another GeForce 2 GTS based video card upon us. This time, the hardworking ASUS elves have delivered the ASUS V7700 Deluxe into our grubby little hands.
ASUS has gone ahead and produced two beefed up cards featuring NVIDIA's GeForce 2 GTS chip. The basic, "Pure," model is the standard GeForce 2 GTS reference design, which can have the optional TV-out daughter card added on later.
The standard GeForce GTS reference design has an optional TV output module that simply plugs into a connector on the video card PCB. The V7700 Deluxe goes a few steps beyond this by including both a composite RCA output and an S-Video output directly on the card. A CCD video input is also included which will allow you input data from a VCR, camcorder, TV, or any other video source into the ASUS V7700 Deluxe. The output can then be sent out to your VGA monitor or television.
There are two different Deluxe models -the Deluxe and the Deluxe/TV. Both cards are exactly the same; the only difference is that the Deluxe/TV comes with the ASUS TV Tuner.
What's different about the V7700 Deluxe?
The vast majority of the GeForce 2 GTS based cards are bare-bones models with only a single VGA monitor output. If you want a GeForce 2 card, you might not be able to get any extra features besides the speed.
The ASUS V7700 Deluxe seeks to fill that void by combining a ton of video input and output features with the world's fastest 3D accelerator chip. The general design of the card is very close to the reference design, with some modifications to accommodate the integrated TV output module and video input circuitry. Included with the card is a very nice software package that includes a customized ASUS software suite and a few third party software products.
