Oxygen GVX1 Specs

What's on this thing?

First, let's take a look at the board itself. The first thing you'll notice about this board is that it is long….longer than the width of our motherboard, actually! The next visibly obvious thing is that it has SGRAM. Symmetrically arranged between the front and the back of the GVX1, this board has 32MB. Upon closer inspection, we see that the specific SGRAM in question is SEC 7ns.

We particularly like the cute but powerful little fans located on the card. Since there are two processors on the card (which we will get to), there are two fans. They are from Sunon, who are a well-known manufacturer of computer fans of all kinds. Although small, they are quite potent, and move a good deal of air, taking heat from the chipset with it.

NT only?

Although there are beta Windows 98 drivers for the Oxygen GVX1, the system requirements specifically call for Windows NT 4.0. As Is the case with many other high-end accelerators, the Oxygen GVX1 appears to be NT only. We say "appears" because we got the card running in Win 98, but the performance was slow - very slow. In NT, the performance in higher-end 3D apps was more of what we expected. This goes along with the idea that this card is intended for a different market segment, which is the high-end market, where SMP setups with 2 or more processors is more of the norm.

 Quick Facts
The GLINT R3 chipset is actually the "workstation" version of the Permedia 3 chipset, which is intended for more of a home audience.
