FiringSquad Summary:
Basically, with the Sapphire X800 XL ULTIMATE Edition, Sapphire improved on their original X800 XL card by incorporating Zalman’s fan on top of their previous X800 XL card. Other than this key difference, the board is essentially unchanged.
Considering that the cooler found on the original Sapphire RADEON X800 XL finished dead last in the noise category in our X800 XL roundup earlier this year, Zalman’s new cooling solution is a welcome change. At the same time however, we would have liked to have seen Sapphire implement a few more changes in their latest ULTIMATE board, chief among them being dual DVI, VIVO would have been nice as well. With ASUS, MSI, and PowerColor all offering dual DVI on their first generation X800 XL cards, in some ways the X800 XL ULTIMATE Edition is playing catch-up to these boards. Gigabyte, on the other hand, caters toward the silent crowd with their heatpipe-based X800 XL card the GV-RX80L256V SilentPipe, which runs completely noiseless. Description:Experience the deafening silence of the latest technological advent from Sapphire as the award winning ULTIMATE series comes to the popular RADEON X800XL line. Listen to the sounds echoing from far off worlds without the drone of PC fans, by equipping your system with the near-silent ULTIMATE cooling solution.
