Is GameSpot in Trouble? (1 comments ) by: Dant (697) Subject: http://firingsquad.com/ Posted 78 months ago ( edited 78 months ago ) in category DEFAULT It all started with a phone call from a coworker who's friends with an ex employee of one of the biggest game sites in the country. He used expressions like "rats leaving a sinking ship" and "bleeding executives." But so what? Rumor and innuendo are always fun, as long as you're not the subject of discussion.
A little research showed that this year alone CNET, the parent corporation of Gamespot and a few other "significant" internet properties, lost not just their Chairman and President, but also their CEO, and COO (Chief Operating Officer) and a couple of Senior Vice Presidents. Even by Enron standards, that seems to me to be an awful long list of very important people.
Most corporate shake-ups start with an internal battle between two powerful foes and end with one rising to prominence. Once the dust settles, there's a press release about how the loser is leaving to take another job somewhere else or is heading for early retirement. All the managers who sided with the departing executive is usually on their way out the door shortly there after, leaving behind a stronger more focused leadership who will steer the company in their preferred direction.
But in this case it seems EVERYONE has left. Which begs the question, who is guiding this behemoth of Internet information.
