Today is Friday so it's time for another weekly game quiz. Last week Jwhx and Beefysworld got all the questions right between them, but I hope more gamers out there try to beet them. This week we have first two celebrities form the gaming world and then there are five game sound clips.
10 points for a correct answer and bonus points will be given for any
extra information.

Hints: Updated 4/18
Question 1 (Image 8) (#1) He used to be a programmer.
(#2) But is now supervising development so to speak.

Question 2 (Image 9) (#1) He worked for MS for almost a decade.

Question 3 (Sound 11) (#1) Added another sound clip Sound Sample 11 hint 1.

Question 4 (Sound 12) (#1) It's the 3rd game in a series.
(#2) But now their are more than half a dozen.
(#3) It has cops.
(#4) The game has two types of music and you can select which you like.
(#5) The game has more than one view.
(#6) Added another sound clip Sound Sample 12 hint 1.
I won't post screen shots because it would give it away.

Question 5 (Sound 13) (#1) Their was made a single Mission Pack.

Question 6 (Sound 14) (#1) Added a screen shot from the game image hint 5.
(#2) It has a movie tie in.
(#3) The movie is of the Sci-Fi genre.

Question 7 (Sound 15) (#1)There was a TV shows with the same name.
(#2) It was made by SEGA.
(#3) Added an screen shot of the game image hint 6.
(#4) Added an screen shot of the game image hint 7.
Puzzle If you can solve the bottom row code (on the image) then Google might be able to help you.
(#5) Added another sound clip Sound Sample 15 hint 1. Warning it is really chessy 80's remix stuff.
Can't really give out more hints I think, (maybe I should reuse it later for 20 points).

Well thats to bad, I will just have to reuse them latter :) I didn't think question 4 would be hard, especially after all the hints I have given I thought it would be easy. Just so you know the franchise has been going for 13 years and is showing no sign of stopping. As for question 7, I have given out system info and year. That plus all the other info shouldn't make it difficult to use Google or some retro gaming sites to find out what game I am talking about. Plus, the rather unique gameplay makes it only 1 out of 3 possible games (you mentioned 1 of them) of that time the fit the description.

Next set of questions (20th) will probably have 3 easy question, 2 medium and 2 hard (but hopefully not at this level).

Yes this quiz is finally over. The main platform is the PC and it might have been a little off putting to talk numbers when they don't all have them. But I just hope the next one will be as fun :) quite a bit of 80's and early 90's games (nothing obscure as zillion, well maybe one title)

I didn't realise NFS3 had selectable music. :)

There were a few clues smattered around that threw me off, just due to the way I think. When you said it had cops in 3 and 6, I assume the games were all numbered, so I looked for something that had a high number of games. Saying the main platform was PC also threw me off a little, as I personally associate NFS to be more of a console game than PC.

But we got there in the end ;)

I'd looked at the list on Mobys, but still nothing was jumping out. I'd seen Zillion in Wiki the first time I had a look, but it just didn't click then either.

In the end, searching for master system games that were similar to impossible mission got me there. :) The sad thing is, I'd played Zillion as a kid, but I barely remember it.

EDIT: As for the other, I've been looking at popular franchises for PC, but again nothing has jumped out.

Yeah your right :) Just how did you figure it out? exhaustive search on mobygames maybe?

As for the other one, you will smack your head 10 times harder when you find that out :)

EDIT: Zillion was my favorite SMS game (even made a map on paper with all the items marked on it), I can't believe someone can forget that gameplay after playing it. The second game sucked I was so disappointed and really wanted to like it but couldn't.

EDIT2: I will just have to think about another hint on question 4, however screen shots and gameplay info are out. That would be like giving the name.

EDIT3: Correct!!! :) it's finally over. (didn't you slap your head 10 times harder :)

You are correct on Image 8, however the other 2 are off (Yes, Sound 15 comes form SMS game. I think I have made that pretty clear by now from all the hints).

Hint: Regarding Sound 12: I mentioned that it had cops, but not all games in the series have them. Actually I can't think of many games that have been running on the same platform for this long (except maybe sports games which this one isn't )

EDIT: What do think, did I over do it with this quiz? And isn't the 3rd quiz much nicer?

Sound 12 - Tomb Raider 3?

Sound 15 - I've gone through a list of SMS games and I can't pick which one it would be... I thought Impossible Mission for a moment, but it can't be that.

As for the difficulty - a mix is nice. Having some easier and some harder questions is good.

Sound clip 12: Incorrect, let me go over the hints and add some new: There are at least 10 games out in the series. Not all the games have cops in them, but this game #3 was the first I think (I think the next one to have cops in it might be #6). The music is either Rock or Techno. It was released in the late 90's. And the main platform is the PC.

As for the SMS game (Sound 15), I was really hoping I would find someone who has played this game, it was one of the best on the Master System. If you (or anyone) had played this game, the image hint 7 would definitely make you remember it. But as I am not likely to find someone how remembers it I have partly changed the question into a puzzle. The name of the game comes up on first page on Google if you figure out the code (or how the code is made up). And another hint, the tv show did more for SEGA than just market the game. Also that "Impossible Mission" guess was really good.

Let me just say this. I didn't think game from sound clip 12 would really be that difficult as it was pretty popular. However I did suspect sound clip 15 game might be difficult as it's 20 years old.

12 - Virtua Cop 3? It's the only 'cop' related game I can think of where you'd have the ability to change music (much like the SF series).

As for the SMS one, I've got no idea...

No Dave, that would be incorrect. But they sound pretty similar, not strange given the fact that they are released pretty close in time to each other.

Have you checked out all questions and have no clue about any of them? The people on the pictures are some of the most famous in the gaming world and I would say maybe at least 2 games are AAA.

No you are wrong on both accounts.

Sound 14: Well I am quite sure you played some games with this movie tie-in, however this one is maybe older than them.

Sound 15: That was a pretty good guess. Maybe I should describe the gameplay because it's pretty unique. You move from room to room and open the doors by finding code and typing it in the terminal.

EDIT: And the next quiz will be up in about 10 hours and 15 minutes.

12 sounds like it should be from outlaws but I've never played it. It just seems fitting for that game.

13 is pissing me off because I've heard it before but can't remember from what. So close to the front of my mind yet it eludes me.

15 sounds like 1942.

I love how you went from those very cool and modern sounding ones to something from waaaaay back in the day. Also, these are some really tough ones this week. Keeping us on out toes? Also glad to see some others joining in.

Sound 12: well it's not Outlaws but you are right about the type of theme, because it's played in a level/map that looks like it's from South-Southwest USA. Hint not all levels/maps follow that theme.

Sound 13: Well I am pretty sure most FPS gamers of last 10-12 years or so have heard this. Don't really want to give the time away to accurately.

Sound 15: Is pretty much the most difficult of lot. It's not 1942, but was released later but you are right about it being a Japanese 80's game.


Yes I try diversify, but I have pretty much decided on the questions next Friday and they
will be much easier. (on the same level of question 5 "Sound clip 13") It is pretty difficult to get feel what people find easy/difficult questions so it's good to get feedback on it, but if you haven't been gaming for at least 12-15 years then I expect many/most of the sound question to be hard.
