Giving the rig to me gives it to five people. Give me the rig and all 6 of us have an awesome x-mas.
long ass ver: So I'm just finishing up high school as are most of my friends. Like me, however, they're all broke, some really really broke. All have jobs, but none have the finances to get any form of SLI or in most cases even a card from the eight series.
My friend Conrad plays Bioshock on an X700 Pro 256mb I gave him. Yeah, he runs the hack that allows Bioshock to run on SM2.0 cards (and makes the game look horrible). He works and goes to school seven days a week, and prefers to spend the money he makes at work (when he’s not on an un-paid internship/work experience program) on things like food :|. And yet this guy refuses to download COD4 even though he loves it and can't afford it, because this kid has high moral standards... and a 56k dial-up connection (which will change if you give me[him] the rig.)
The X700 pro is openGL 2.0 compatible (duhh). Conrad's dad, a graphic artist, will probably end up getting that. He doesn't game, but he does alot of 3d rendering on a voodoo. Have you ever tried 3D studio max on a Voodoo 5 or whatever the hell it is? Not fun. When you get above 5 polygons things become tricky ;)
My friend Wilson, who's possibly the awper (sniper, counter strike 1.6 and source) you've ever seen runs on a rig with an IGP solution designed three or four years ago that absolutely gets de_stroyed by COUNTERSTRIKE 1.6, A GAME RELEASED OVER A DECADE AGO. I managed to get him on an X1950 gt I had to do some serious modification to (undervolting, under clocking, and re-soldering) to even get running. This kid's not like cal-m good, hes cal-p/i good. He’s CPL level stuff. No joke, if ShaGuar was setup in B on D2, I'm betting wilson would have the skill to bring him down. Which you prefer him running on, a crippled X1950 GT or Geforce 8800? We plan to make a COD4 team.
My friend jimmy just recently managed to get an 8800GTS 320mb. He’s totally happy with it, but again for someone who works as hard as he does, he deserves better. This is the first time he's ever been able to play DOD:S (based on the source engine, an engine 4 years old) comfortably. Even then, the 320mb buffer doesn't stand much of a chance against 1600X1200 with 16X AA, and his computer has trouble with networking.
So what happens if you give me the rig? A trickle down effect. Instead of having one happy Nvidia fan, you'll have five (myself, Wilson, Jimmy, Conrad, and Conrad's Dad). Instead of making one persons x-mas awesome, you'll make five peoples x-mas awesome.
If you give me the rig, I'll replace my 8800GTS 96 SP 640mb with the 8800GTS 512mb, give my card to Wilson, and give the 2nd 8800GTS 512mb to Conrad, as well as the case, and PSU. The X700 pro Conrad uses to play Bioshock will go to his dad. I'll get jimmy off his old Athlon 64 and onto core 2, and a motherboard that can properly do networking.
The crippled X1950 GT will find a home, I can assure you, after I get it repaired a little better (no joke, I’m using two elastic bands to hold the cooler onto the card).
You give me the rig, I will rip it apart, and will end up giving 5 people an awesome x-mas. If you need me to sign some contract or want further proof of my pitiful situation, I can provide. Just please, gimmi the rig!
and uhh, I posted this in shout out once. Sorry, heh heh.
edit: oh and I found a home for the X1950GT thats crippled. Once I get it a condition where its a little more stable, I'll give it to Jamie, my friend who religiously plays World of Warcraft on a 6600LE. 15 avg at his native resolution. Not fun. He comes over and says "wow things are so smooth on your computer geoff!".
