overclock video

We start off with a clean system install! Make a back up copy so that if things get a bit shaky later on we have something to revert back to. In addition we want to download CPU-Z (used to verify our changes) and set fsb(allows changes of fsb in windows).

Now we get started by access the bios on our computer, this is usually done by pressing delete,f2 or f8 during system start up. It is best to try and overclock the CPU through the bios instead of using software based settings changes as the start of windows in its self is a bit of a stability check/test.

In computing a computers speed one must understand that the over all speed of the system is calculated by the product of the multiplier and front side bus. Usually these two are tied together on older computers and its best to start out by lower via the bios the system memory to the lowest setting before messing with the frontsidebus or multiplier which ever is adjustable.

We start out in the bios by selecting advance chipset features basically the category that has chipset in the title. If we are overclocking newer components then we may be able to set our multiplier to the max default from the drop down menu in the bios. In the bios menu first lets select the category of System Clocks and then go in and maximize our system multiplier by selecting the highest the bios allows. Now we back out of that and select the Front Side Bus(FSB and memory tab) now on newer hardware you will usually be allowed to set the FSB independently of the memory setting. Now this one will take some tweaking to find the sweet spot so slowly step it up and check stability each time check your processors fsb range online so you don't initially step it up to much. Leave the memory speed alone. Now that we have changed the speeds we need to increase the voltage slightly to allow the chip to hit these newly minted speeds your voltage should fall between 1.2-1.5 range depending on how much overclocking you are doing.

Now save in exit setup out of the the bios and restart your computer, if anything goes wrong during boot up revert back to the previous settings and half your last adjustment until you find the ideal setting.

Three Scenarios in my eyes,
1. New components that allow the independent manipulation of the fsb, multiplier and system memory.
2. Older components that have on the fsb unlocked and the others tied together.
3. SOL components which are addressed in the video

Now there is another option/scenario on the way to overclocking and Its in the following video. I truly hope that the deadline is extended as I have a final tomorrow and am out of town all next week and would like to put more time into this contest.

Video awaiting moderator approval.....video as promised though now with the extension I feel a tweak coming...

Informative, but could've been easier/more fun to read...Good job though!
