Star Trek 40th-Annvrsy-Logo

Whilst i know that this is not a game review as such it should be seen as an inspiration to future game developers.

---------------------------------------------------------------
Gene Roddenberry

Gene Roddenberry was born August 19, 1921 and died October 24, 1991 I believe that he was a great man with a wonderful vision of “Space the finial frontier”.

In the 60’s he had an idea for a TV Series called star trek, the pilot was first aired 1967 to the Paramount Movie studio executives at first it was rejected but with this vision he tried very hard to produce this TV series but he never gave up. There were many set backs such as having a black person and female at that as an officer, a Russian, an Asian pilot, an alien science officer, but despite all this he still kept going on and on until he finally got approval to produce the star trek series the original. In 1965 the show was cancelled and with that the studio was flooded with fan mail, phone calls asking that they produce a another series or to do a re-run of star trek, with that cry from the public the executives at Paramount had no choice but to re-air star trek.

Even though the special effects were basic compared to today they were great in it made you believe that you were traveling to distant stars and planets and meeting new species that would become apart of the united planet federation.

Perhaps this was the beginning of how people think about a game that is related to futurist ideas or something related to space travel. When NASA announced that they were going to build a Space Shuttle the fans of star trek insisted on naming it “Enterprise” and as a result NASA did just that.

As I watch the newer episodes of star trek – the new generation, Deep space 9, Star Trek Enterprise with the new special effects and the Computer Generated graphics it showed me that people like were strongly influenced by Gene vision and those that knew him personally know that this man was a great leader for the future.

As we start exploring our solar system going to the moon, then mars then to outer regions of our solar system were Science Fiction starts becoming Science Fact and we encounter new beings from different planets our planet earth becomes united and becomes a small dot on a space map amongst the billions of other stars out there in the universe.

So the next futuristic or space game that you play you must ask yourself is this what gene had in mind or was the designer a star trek fan or for the game designer/ developer would you base your game on something that you saw on star trek.

Not only games but to futuristic looking control panels and consoles with the LCARS style of interface as seen on Star Trek.

Gene Roddenberry was an inspiration to me perhaps he would be an inspiration to you.

Your article is poorly articulated, badly worded, horribly structured and also has NO point whatsoever. Your poor defense in your comments doesn't make sense. First of all, you are preaching to future game developers, which are not likely to give half a care about your article and have likely already formulated what they've wanted to design in their heads.

You seem to have written the article and THEN thought of a reason the article should be valid for the competition.

An extra side note: You might want to be careful NOT insulting more than half the human population when writing your reviews.

a joke

I gave this a 1 because of the typo in the headline. Haven't we discussed this already?

still overly punitive, but consistent =)

Sorry, but it's not very well written and again, has little or nothing to do with video games or the game industry in general.

This isn't really gaming related. I liked Star Trek: The Next Generation but thats it. If you want to add Star Trek to your gaming article, how about review a Star Trek game or Star Trek's impact on the games industry (Star Trek was a HEAVY influence in the science community). Also, it is imperative to have proper grammar and spelling. Mozilla Firefox 2.0 offers a spell-check, not as good as say that of Microsoft Word or other word processors, but enough that a few silly spelling mistakes can be avoided.

good intent, but the grammar was pretty bad, and i also question the applicability of this topic to the contest.

Whilst I know that this is not a game review I deceided to do a different approach ... as such it should be seen as an inspiration to future game developers.

helpful hint: professional writers really should have good grammar/spelling as second nature, if not force of habit. having such a glaring misspelling in your title will do bad things to your score, as happened to another article here.

also you need to research your facts better. how could the show be cancelled in 1965 when the pilot first aired in 1967? in fact, from the sources i've looked up, star trek first aired in 1966, threatened with cancellation in '68, and finally cancelled in '69.
