| Agreed. I know the point of the industry is to make money, and money is what counts as success, but what exactly is Alan saying here? That any movie that makes lots of money is good as art? That seems a pretty silly theory.
"There's a reason transformers grossed $700m..." Maybe. But that reason could be something other than that the movie is good. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Your argument "Either you are moving around too much to see anything, or it's too dark to see anything" makes all graphics irrelevant.
Maybe when you play your screen is either pitch black or a blur, but I think most players like to occasionally see something on their screen. In these cases jaggies can be annoying.
But seriously, your argument could work against anything. Also the screen being dark can make jaggies more annoying. Like in this screenshot:

And movement can also make jaggies worse, because jaggies can pop in and out, appearing to slide along the edge. When this happens they are more noticeable than in a still screenshot. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Just to prove I'm not hallucinating, check out FS's screenshots of Jedi Knight II from early 2002:
http://www.firingsquad.com/media/article_image.asp/1037/01
and imagine them without jaggies. Pretty sweet right?
Now check out bioshock without AA:

Total crap! I actually think I did manage to play Jedi Knight II with AA with whatever video card I had at the time. With Bioshock and my NV7900GT it's more of a challenge.
It's almost like graphics have gotten worse since 2002 despite my spending $300 on video cards every two years. Who cares about water ripples when every single edge in the game looks like those stairs?
I had to laugh at FS's Bioshock "post processing" screenshots. They are using up a lot of cycles making the game look worse at the same time the game is jabbing its finger in my eye with every single edge. Flag this | Edit this post |

| For years jaggies have been the only thing bothering me about graphics. I'd probably prefer the graphics on a 2002 game w/ 4xAA to those of 2007 game with no AA.
And yet, years after AA went mainstream (and years after they told us modern hardware made AA penalty-free) I still can't run AA at reasonable framerates unless I have some incredibly expensive video card and/or implement some workaround.
Something is really messed up here. Flag this | Edit this post |

| How many hours was the game? Being tedious after the first few hours may not be so bad if the game only lasts 6 hours. I'm fricken loaded* so I don't mind paying for short games.

| Great quote:
"The truck driver definitely would have known," he said. "You know when you run over a curb and my head was definitely higher than a curb."
I used to ride to work (about 12 miles a day) but where I am now cycling is just too dangerous.. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | No, this guy is still insane. His basic argument is: If we blame video games, then we should support video game control. But if we support video game control then we might as well support gun control. But gun control is crazy! So I guess we'll let people keep their games, so no one takes our guns. | Adam Miller's large module "Dark Waters" will be coming out in a couple days. A few of the NWN modules he made were better than the original campaigne so it's definitely worth trying out (it's free anyway):

| | I liked this review. I was shopping around for a smartphone recently and so far the E series is my first choice (Blackberry connect and SyncML are its two main selling points for me). Flag this | Edit this post |
