| | i dunno, but i described what the new special infected do and it's pretty straightforward from there... i made the decision not to go into much detail about the old stuff, instead focusing on what's new. i figure if you're reading this review you already know about the first game and want to know the deal with the sequel. had i been doing this a year ago, i certainly would've gone into more detail about versus, but it hasn't changed much since then. | | you could argue that most people don't keep up on the news, they just see MW2 in ads or on display at the store and buy it because the last one was good... doesn't mean they aren't disappointed with it. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | it's not my thing either, but the format is very much alive. new albums come out on vinyl all the time, in addition to CD and digital. the sound quality is superior to anything else and the aesthetics are appealing enough to make vinyl collecting more popular than you'd think. | | what do you mean fail? i think it's a great idea. whenever i played a skirmish i just built defenses until i got to tech 3 because any units i built before that would be pretty much useless... i always ended up doing exactly what they said inspired this: tossing all low-tech units into the fire to free up population cap. | i see where you're coming from, but call of duty has never really been very "tactical." granted, not being able to lean removes much of the finesse you were capable of in previous games, but you always played a rambo-type hero that shouldn't count on much more from your allies than some suppressing fire. the stealth levels that allow you to choose whether or not to engage patrols involve MORE tact than previous games, if anything. the blockbuster action has always been a major draw of the series for me.
the vehicle sections have always been there, whether on rails with you firing small arms or commanding a tank in a very simplified manner. they're usually fun except on higher difficulties when it's near impossible to avoid dying... yes, the gangsta-glockin' is silly (you even get a "drive-by" achievement for a certain number of kills that way) and the accuracy you speak of is due to magical auto-aim that will make the bullets hit anything generally in front of you. i wish you could actually aim the gun, but i'm sure it was dumbed down to be played easier with a controller.
i gave it an 82 because i still think it's an above average game, if only slightly. in contrast, i gave CoD 4 a near-perfect score in my amateur review for one of the media blog contests. (that was for single-player only, but as far as i know, that game's MP didn't suffer the same issues this one's does, so it probably wouldn't have detracted from an overall score anyway.) | i never had any nausea (though i didn't in HL2, either, was that an FOV issue?), but compared to a game where you don't have the really tight FOV, it feels like you have blinders on. it's almost claustrophobic when the gun is taking up nearly 1/4 of the screen...
and having played a lot more MP today, i probably would knock off a few more points. it keeps spitting out strange new errors and one time was stuck constantly showing an "unable to connect" error and i had to end the process. plus i'm pretty sure i've seen a few guys using the aimbot that is out already.
i'm still playing and having fun, though, i'm a sucker for all of the leveling up and unlocking stuff... Flag this | Edit this post |

| it varies. sometimes you'll be playing within a couple minutes, sometimes it can take up to 5-10 minutes if you're unlucky. if you're behind a router, it helps to forward the port (28960) to enable you to host.
the lag also varied. half the time i had full green bars (whatever that means), but other times i had 2 yellow bars and once i lagged out completely. usually when i was in the yellow it was annoying enough for me to quit and find another game.
i didn't play with friends, myself, but what you do is invite people on your steam friends list to your "party." this is like a private lobby, and it allows you all to join the same game, and all on the same team if there are less than 9 of you, i think. Flag this | Edit this post |

| i've played a few hours of it so far, it's still fun. the matchmaking is relatively painless when it works, but that's about half the time. i've gotten all sorts of dumb messages like "unable to connect to host" (uh, then why did you choose him as host?) and "game lobby closed" which must've been due to the host leaving. but other times, it has said "looking for new host" with the lobby intact, so i'm not sure.
yeah, all of this is based on me playing with a bunch of random people on pretty small maps, so if you like that, it's fine. you can do the "party" thing and invite people from your steam friends list, but if you want to be on a team with more than 8 people in your clan or something, dunno what to tell ya... i'm going to have the full review (including MP) done by morning. | | are we talking modchip or homebrew software, like is popular on the wii? just about every wii system update that has come out lately is just a patch to nullify softmods, but they don't ban the console and make you get a new one... they just make you wait a couple weeks until someone cracks it again, lol. | i don't like micro-managing that much, either, but that's why i haven't turned up the difficulty, because playing a slide show is what's required to be the most effective in combat. i agree with Lidale saying this game should be turn-based, because this is most definitely not an action RPG.
maybe bioware was pressured to alter the gameplay in order to make it more accessible to the mainstream? the trailers and commercials ooze of "shit guys, bioware made the game require STRATEGY, but that won't sell! let's hype up the sex and violence!" so judging from that, i don't think it's too far-fetched.
it just seems you came into it with the wrong mindset, expecting something more straightforward. i'm sorry it ruined your enjoyment of the game. Flag this | Edit this post |

| so you're saying there needs to be a boss enemy present to constitute a real test of your skills? i disagree. if anything, a large number of enemies is more difficult to deal with than one big tough guy.
it sounds like you expect every skirmish in between major boss battles to be effortless, and then when it's not, you call it randomly too difficult. i've found that most "meaningless encounters" can be deadly if you are careless. Flag this | Edit this post |

| ohh. i was gonna say, that would explain your difficulties with tact...
the collector's edition comes with all the DLC (at least the major ones) but even the standard edition comes with the golem and blood armor DLCs. aside from having to put your CD key(s) in on the website, the way it's integrated into the game is pretty cool. not the teaser characters that give you dialogue options prompting you to buy it, but i thought it was really neat that i could download them through the journal in-game and then only have to quit to the main menu to install.
