| | The major thing they're touting with UE4 is the dynamic particles, so basically all those little embers and sparkly things floating around. Not sure if they're using PhysX, but the effect is way more dense and fluid than anything NVIDIA has ever shown with that. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Battlefield 2 had all its add-on content total the same amount of money. Spec Ops expansion was $30, Armored Fury and Euro Forces boosters were $10 each. And that was less content than all of what Premium has (20 new maps, 20 new weapons, etc.).
Since I already have Back to Karkand and I'm not sure I'd be interested in a couple of those (like Close Quarters), I don't know if I'd go for the whole package. They will probably be selling individually for $15 though. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Modern Warfare 2 did 4.7 million on its first day, MW3 was 6.5 million, but like you said, those include a majority of 360 and PS3 versions. 6.3 million of a PC exclusive in one week is still very impressive.
Despite Activision's boasting, however, none of the Call of Duty games come anywhere close to being the best-selling of all time unless you put qualifiers on it like "only in this country" or "only in X amount of time." Nintendo is still the champion there, with games like the original Super Mario Bros. (40+ mil), Game Boy Tetris (35+ mil), Mario Kart Wii (32+ mil), and even New Super Mario Bros. for DS (26+ mil). | I disagree with everyone saying that this proves always-on DRM is acceptable; Blizzard is the only company that could have pulled this off. People gave them the benefit of the doubt because they're very online-oriented, but after all the issues they've had with their infrastructure, they won't enjoy the same liberties if they do it again.
The reason Diablo 3 is selling so well despite all the detractors who refuse to buy in to it and all the outcry from people who did, is the sheer size of their fanbase. If Ubisoft or id Software or BioWare or whoever else tries to force people online for their next PC game, they will regret it because they don't have near the amount of potential customers and goodwill needed to weather that storm.
Not to mention the fact that 'always-on DRM' alone is not an accurate description of the online services associated with this game. Though you're still forced to be connected and can suffer gameplay interruptions if your internet hiccups or your wireless signal isn't the greatest, they do have actual reasons to be online. Ubisoft doesn't have integrated chat, friends lists, drop-in drop-out co-op, auction houses, etc., they PURELY use it to combat piracy. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Act 1 does drag on a little bit, but once you're leveling up and unlocking tons of skills to choose from and the enemies start coming in droves, it gets a lot more interesting. I was in zero danger of ever dying as a Barbarian until I was caught off-guard at the beginning of Act 2, big group of monsters with a few blues (elites?) and a yellow named boss... ouchies. | Lol, the .gif is all there is to this post. Spent a good hour or so looking at the login screen last night before finally getting in to play for a little bit.
Then this morning, came to find out they took the servers down for "emergency maintenance," which lasted from 10:30am to 3:30pm Pacific... Since then I've been able to play at least, but with just under a 300ms ping (which the green bars on the HUD claim is "good") the whole time. It's just asinine to have to endure that for single-player gameplay.
I'll probably start work on a proper impressions article tonight, as I've just now finished with Act 1. And yes, you might as well just start with D3. The old games are still worth playing, but obviously very dated, and being that they're hack-'n'-slash RPGs, the story really isn't all that important. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | It's not necessarily the figure that is news here, but the massive slide from a few months ago (almost 1/4 of the people, gone). Generally you'd be looking for any growth at all or at least managing to hold steady, especially with all the promotions they've been having. Free weekends, free month for existing subs with level 50 characters, free week for those that cancelled, massive price cuts for the game itself, etc. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Access your account settings by clicking 'Account' up in the top-left corner. Then under the section titled '3. Your Settings,' make sure the option for 'Default View' is selected. That will ensure the most recent 20 or so new stories are loaded and visible on the front page, below the list of articles. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Mostly third-person, yes, though I believe aiming/shooting from cover is in first. I think that tradition went out the window when they planned to only make the F2P Ghost Recon: Online for PC. By the time they backtracked and decided to port this one over, it was either too late to do it like an FPS or they just didn't care. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I pretty much agree with this score. ME2 -> ME3 is very much analogous to the decline in quality between Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2 (and then there's the ending on top of that). I don't know what the hell EA/BioWare think they're doing, but the reality is they are losing more and more respect from fans with every new game they put out. DA3 had better be freakin' amazing... | But what about those other new players that can't afford to pay to unlock the stuff? If the basis of your argument is that existing players have an advantage, doesn't letting people pay to get that advantage just make that imbalance worse? I.e. there are even more people with the advantage over newbies/poor people? Not that it's that cut and dry anyway; there's usually a mixture of people of all different ranks and unlock progress, so it evens out.
But aside from that, I just think it's stupid to pay for unlocks. Leveling up and earning your ranks and rewards is a huge part of playing this type of game. If you decide trying to ensure you're on a level playing field is more important than that, well, you'll probably get bored with it more quickly. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | You could probably call Brotherhood and Revelations expansions to Assassin's Creed 2, technically, since they continued the story of Ezio Auditore. So their numbering scheme reflects that this new one will be something different, like AC2 was after the first game. Flag this | Edit this post |
