| WOW! Pot calling kettle! Pot calling kettle!
We are just as much barbarians as they are. We're the reason the world is falling to shit. We removed the democratically elected government that was in Iran in 1953 via a CIA orchestrated coup. We installed the Shah, we let the shah fall, we supported Iraq during the Iran-Iraq war. If the shoe was on the other foot how would you feel. How would you like being fucked with. By accident of birth we are American but that doesn't mean we should be dicks to the rest of the world. Is it really going to kill us if we sit and talk to these people instead of creating yet another war which will kill more of our troops, tank the economy further, and increase the price of everything as the price of gas/diesel sky rockets???
We did it with the Chinese and the Russians and they had nukes with ICBMs! Damn, of all of the countries in the world, China is the real existential threat to this country. They could tank our economy in 1 day if they called in all of the US debt they own. Think about that the next time you buy something that has the Made In China sticker on it.
We created all of this bullshit so that the petrochemical companies and the military industrial complex can make a ton of cash, I know because I was a part of it.
Talk is cheap, if you're such a tough guy go and sign up for your preferred branch of the military and go fight for some BS ideal like I did and watch it punch you in the face.

| The cause of his weight loss is possibly due to over-production of a cytokine (hormone-like substance) known as cachectin (AKA: Tumor Necrosis Factor-Alpha). This substance is released for various reasons with cancer and certain inflammatory/infective states being the main reasons for its over-production.
Knowing he has a positive past medical history for a form of pancreatic cancer (a milder islet-cell type neuroendocrine tumor versus the much more lethal adenocarcinoma) it may be possible that he has had a recurrence or maybe a new type of cancer.
It is, however, also quite possible that he is just having chronic post Whipple Procedure side effects -- they have a very modified GI tract after the procedure which means they cannot eat as much and also digest foods differently than the "average" person, having to take supplemental exogenous digestive enzymes as well as other vitamin/mineral/calorie supplements. Considering the amounts of stress he must be under from his job, he may not be able to eat on a regular enough schedule or has been eating with a decreased frequency which can also lead to weight loss. He could also be having issues with malabsorption or a combination of the above. Only he and his doctors know for sure.
I guess we will see soon enough.

| Apparently, the first movie is ALL of the Hobbit, the second film is a bridge between the Hobbit and Fellowship of the Ring and takes Tolkien's other references to help bridge that gap. At least from what I read of the press report and articles on www.rottentomatoes.com, www.aintitcoolnews.com, and www.theonering.net.
Also, there is a pole on www.theonering.net asking if you are willing to wait for Jackson to have time to direct, so far 74% of respondents say yes.

| It's like the Game Cube/DVD Player Hybrid that Panasonic made several years back called the Panasonic Q. It will just be another option out there that, like the Q, may never see an official US release. The HD-DVD built in will only be used for movies, not games.

| You said: "I'm sorry but this is very poor reasoning."
Please explain this. I never said the game was the root cause of the murderer's actions . . . I said it had SOME influence. I did not pretend to quantify how much influence either.
You said: "Yes, the violent videogames may inspire or arouse violence in SOME people, but that does not in any way put them at fault."
What? So you agree that SOME people may be inspired to violence by a video game but the video game in question is not "at fault" for inspiring violence in those people. Uh, that sentence makes zero sense.
You said: "TV, music, sex, arguments, movies, books, and many other things can cause the exact same stimulation."
Again, since I openly admit that there needs to be more trials regarding this, where are you getting the information that other forms of media exert the same levels of mental and physical arousal as an interactive video game? Remember, my comments were specifically dealing with WATCHING violence, you can't WATCH violence in a book. Watching violence is different than imagining violence.
You said: "Just because certain people are very negatively effected (it should be "affected" by the way) by them will not be enough to cause legal action."
I never commented either way in regards to what the family of the victim should or should not do legally. Your sentence, however, is PRECISELY one of the reasons (other than political agendas etc) why laws and regulations come into being. Philosophically, laws and regulations are to protect people within a society even if an individual person does not want that protection because the benefits to society as a whole outweigh the disadvantage to the individual.
You said: "Besides these links are correlative. That can never prove cause and effect."
Can you please explain what you mean by these two sentences? What links are correlative? Please define your usage of "correlative" in this context. Correlations show associations, so if there is a correlation between watching violence and committing violence then we can comment on a probable cause and effect relationship as long as confounding variables are taken into consideration during the design phase of any trial studying these phenomena.

| He didn't play it, the murderer did; just a small point. Besides, last time I checked, it doesn't take a fake ID to buy an M-rated game. I agree that parents have a lot of responsibility to monitor what their kids do but society as a whole doesn't seem to want to help parents out. Besides, you're telling me you NEVER snuck one by your folks (booze, porn, cigarettes, illicit drugs, sneaking into R-rated movies, etc)???
I'm not saying that playing a game will turn you into a murderer but watching violence of any kind will raise your heart rate and your level of psychological arousal. That's why kids watching wrestling or the Power Rangers will mimic the moves they see on TV on each other. That extends to violence in video games as well. Anybody who says otherwise is just plain wrong.
There may not be many trials dealing with videogame violence being translated to real life violence but there is PLENTY of anecdotal evidence to support it. Don’t you ever get keyed up playing online shooters? I know I do BUT I don’t go out and kill afterwards because I have a well adjusted, mature psychological coping mechanism. Not everybody is created equal and not everybody has that ability – and I’m referring to the adults here; children and adolescents are at a disadvantage when dealing with violence because of their immature and underdeveloped psyches. Just think about what gender and age group commit the most violent crimes, adolescent to young-adult males.
It is only a matter of time before some really large and well designed trials do come out showing a link, mark my words. In the interim, Check your blood pressure and pulse rate before and after a game and you will see a marked difference. The “violence” centers of your brain are going full blast as are your “fight or flight” hormones coursing through your veins. The games are not the root cause but that does not mean they are faultless.

| The game ran well on my Clevo D900T Laptop without any add-ons. I had a consistent 35 FPS +/- 5 FPS running at 1024x768 with generous portions of eye candy/foliage and even 2x AA.
It's silky smooth on most of the SLI rigs I've seen but I guess that is to be expected.
What kind of system do you have? Have you tried playing it? It does take some serious tweaking to get everything to run smoothly but it's worth the effort.

| Maybe they should have done some research before having this contest. I mean, how hard is it to Google it or even to go to WebMD to find out? I'm surprised a lawsuit hasn't come out of this yet. Ignorance is no excuse, they will get involuntary manslaughter if the DA is any good and the radio sation will loose millions in a civil suit if her family has a good attorney.
Moral of the story: Always ask a health professional before hosting a contest involving putting something (other than knowledge) into or (for that matter) onto the body, or involving any type of physical stressor.

| You are wrong. There are NO games above 1080i. You can get 1080p over component with the HD-DVD add on IF your monitor can accept 1080p over component. My monitor, the LVM-42W2 from Westinghouse can and does accept 1080p over component.

Alex
P.S. What I meant to say was, "It has no games that are NATIVELY 1080p" -- an upscaled 720p or 1080i image is not the same as true native 1080p. By the way, what XBLA games are NATIVE 1080p? Flag this | Edit this post |

| I agree, he has implied an incorrect inference to the quote. That is just bad writing. Just because your reader can compensate for bad writing does not mean you should write poorly. That is why there are editors and the like in the realm of journalism.
