| | Thanks for running this. It looks like htere is no performance decrease in Vista 64 bit, so I feel like I won't have too many problems going with this operating system. I'll have to research the components I get to make sure that the drivers work properly though. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | They didn't have rumble because the company that held the patent sued them and won. Both Nintendo and Microsoft have been liscencing the technology, but Sony didn't; they just stole it and pretended that it was different somehow. Sony finally gave in and liscensed the technology as well. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I would say that Mech Warrior 2 was great. Mech Warrior 1 was kind of ok. It was a top down view - 2d game, and it didn't really follow the Battletech game very well. It kind of reminded me of the Shadowrun game for the Nintendo. It was kind of fun, but it wasn't a great game by any means. Mech Warrior 2 was really cool though, and I loved the controls in the game. Mercenaries was a much better game, in my oppinion, because it had a better story line, and you actually salvaged mechs and equipment which brought you further into the game. | | My last Intel chip was in 1993 as well, but that is more because AMD always had the best deal whenever I was in the market after that. The K6-233 was the best value at the time, the Athlon 1GHz and A64-3500+ were also the best values when I went to buy computers the last two upgrades. It looks like Intel will be in my next upgrade though, next year. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Sierra made their living off of those games back in the day. Back then, they were generally considered the only games worth playing. I bet that a well produced action game would do well now, just because it would be different from the monotony of mainstream games out now. Plus nostalgia would help it gain some sales. | | I went back and played SQ4 again recently. I tried to do the same with Under a Killing Moon, but that game doesn't run too well with DOS emulation. I would love to see another game of that caliber get released. I am tired of FPS games, and they usually bore me to death now. I like some RTS games, but they seem a little too balanced most of the time, which kind of kills the suspension that someone can sneak in and start destroying your base or something like in the original C&C. I would love to play a new Wing Commander game. That is a genre that hasn't had much play recently, and probably would do pretty well as a change-up to the FPS and RTS games. | » 32 bit operating system limitations on memory In case you didn't get my comment from before on your memory problems, I will copy it here. I didn't see your question until after the chat was done.
32 bit operating systems can only use 4GB of memory. It is a limitation with 32 bit (2^32 = 4,294,967,296 memory addresses). Windows cuts that in half for convenience, so that it can use the additional 2GB of memory addresses for the operating system. You will never be able to use more that 4GB of memory on a 32bit operating system, so to fix this you would need to go to 64 bit (2^64 = 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 memory addresses). This includes video memory on Vista.
A better explanation of what is going on and what you can do about it is given here in three parts:

http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=3044
http://www.anandtech.com/systems/showdoc.aspx?i=3060
It is interesting, and does show some tricks to get more of that 4GB available to your applications, but it won't be possible to use more than 4GB until you move to a 64 bit operating system. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Are there any adventure games in development, like Space Quest? Those were always my favorite games when I was growing up. Under a Killing Moon is the last game that I remember like that, and that was over 10 years ago. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I had a Pentium 60, then upgraded to a K6 233 as well. After that, I just built computers out of spare parts, because I was dirt poor, until I bought an Athlon 1GHz machine with a VooDoo 5500 (should have gotten a GeForce, but the VooDoo actually lasted me for years before needing to upgrade.) I just find it interesting that we bought similar computers over the years. I find it more interesting that you bought a K6 200, because I didn't know too many people who really understood that it was much faster than any intel chip out at the time. | » More game reviews? Hi Jakub,
I always have enjoyed your game reviews, and to be honest, I usually take the game reviews worth a grain of salt unless you are the reviewer. What is the next game that you are going to review?

| | Yeah, but those games come out in the future. I bought Stalker, and C&C3, but there was nothing else even interesting enough to consider buying until BioShock came out. Three games total this year for the PC so far. Crysis looks awesome, but Hellgate London has some weird subscription deal that will keep me from playing it. I am also interested in the Witcher, but I don't know when that will finally be released. The dirth of new games brings me down now that I have some time to actually play them. | | All these MMO games coming out tell me that the pricing model of these games must appeal to all the developers. It is a constant source of income, so it makes some sense. I would rather that other types of games get released more often, considering I don't like MMO games, but it seems like that ship has sailed. BioShock seems like the only worthwhile game released for the Computer so far this year. That really kind of sucks. Flag this | Edit this post |

| That's cool. I just moved here, and I am moving again in a month or two. (I'm looking for a house, although I will probably stay in Sterling Heights.)
I lived in Saginaw for a couple of years, and that isn't too far from Grand Blanc. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I couldn't check it out at the time it was set up, but I answered one persons question about memory limitations on the operating system after the fact. Hopefully they went back and read it afterward. I don't have a whole lot of expertise, but that was one question I could answer. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | This will give my roommate a reason to buy the computer he has been wanting to buy. I haven't kept up on things over the last few months, so I will need to do some research on the components again to come up with the best rig for him. Anyone know when nVidia is coming out with their second generation of DX10 cards? Flag this | Edit this post |
