| In secret, Jack Thompson is actually an avid game player and goes by the name TommyDeathGun69 because he thinks that is just sooo 1337. His favorite games are Postal, Dead Rising, and GTA-anything, has a pre-order in for Saints Row, and will totally spank you as a Strogg Medic when Quake Wars comes out. He just does the whole media thing to get free games and make a futile attempt to gain his Mother's approval.
That's the truth. Blame Jack Thompson's Momma. Flag this | Edit this post |

| With bullets even about 1/3 smaller than a pellet gun, and slightly higher velocity than a "Wal-Mart special" pump air rifle, it's not likely to cause any fatal wounds unless it's directly in the eye. However, because the bullet IS so small, it's just possible that within maybe 50 yards, it just might penetrate enough to get into a vein and travel around and act like a fatal blood clot. It'd be a complete fluke, but it's possible.
However, absolutely no "stopping" power, and I wouldn't place any bets on hitting anything close to 10 yards away, this is strictly a novelty popper. Cute though. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Read the article. It's not because of censorship this time, amazingly. It's because the government-endorsed Chinese animation studios have no talent for creating interesting characters and can't compete against foreign media, so the government is trying to make it easier for the locals. | | I can't blame Natalie for anything about her role in Star Wars. First, she's a good actress. Second, she's just so durn purty. Third, I challenge anybody to read the dialog she was given and come up with ANY actress that could make it sound like anything other than a third-grade school play. The dialog in every half-way romantic scene comes out trite and cliche no matter who's reading it. "You're everything soft and smooth." Gag. Me. With. A. Spoon. Almost as bad as "midichlorians". | | Sure it does. Video encoding/decoding quality is fairly independent of resolution. Higher res makes anything look better, but a crappy encoder will still blur pixels together, lose color gradients, or restrict the range of repoducible color. Ever watch a DVD, especially anime, where there is a large section of smooth color like black or blue, and it's blotchy like someone spilled coffee on the film? That's a crappy encoding job, and it'll still look that bad if re-rendered in another 10 years at 4x more resolution unless they improve the encoder/decoder solution. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | They're hoping to put more wrestlers into the acting business. However, completely ignoring the fact that it's from the WWE, it does look like a decent excuse for an action hero flick. I think The Rock is doin a good job, but there's always room for more explosions and one-liners. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | OK, first of all, it's my opinion that once the packets get out of your house, it doesn't matter what's on your PC or on the server you're talking too, you can't make it go faster. But let's suppose they can, and it's possible that they somehow encode packets to be transported faster on the internet backbones. How long will it be before providers ban those cards because it "hogs undue resources"? Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Nobody mentions any actions taken against the idiot that actually lit the place on fire... I guess he'll sue for mental damage because the waitress didn't give him a 3-hour seminar on the dangers of combining flame, paper, and high-content alcoholic drinks. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Do yourself a favor and try to find "Dragons Forever", Chinese name "Fei lung maang jeung". Think "Three Stooges" meets "Drunken Master". Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Biao Yuen, who were all young students together in the Chinese Opera where they learned martial arts and performing. Not the greatest plot ever, but some of the best-executed funny fight scenes on film. It's what a Chan/Li team picture could be if we're very lucky. Flag this | Edit this post |

| As I've said before, the extra cost has alway been in the biggest displays of marketeering to promote a piece of crap product. Year before last, "True Crime" had a team of HORRIBLE rappers (their singing was even worse), about 10 models (only 2 were worth looking at), some expensive car, a turntable for the DJ's, huge speakers... and the only thing about the game was a couple of LCD monitors flashing the title. Not even a screenshot.
Sitting right next to that abomination was Call of Duty 2's bunker where you got to sit and watch a dev actually play the game on a projection screen. No models, no fluff, just game. And it was good. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Or release a big-name game (or 2) at the other console's launch. At the moment, I'd be happy if they'd just finish getting Street Figher 2 on the arcade. They've had the stupid picture packs up for almost 2 months... but no game. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Much of urban Japan does have higher-speed lines, but then again much of urban Japan is so jam-packed that the lines don't have to run very far. They don't have to spread backbones across 3,000 miles of almost every type of terrain known to man to reach both ends of the country. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | If they'd put more effort into content, the gamers would be more impressed. I was glad to completely ignore huge rapper stages, dancers, pimped-out cars, blaring music, and huge video screens that contained no gameplay, just to come across a simple 3-foot poster of a game that didn't suck. Here's a concept: make games that don't suck, instead of spending millions trying to fool us into buying games that do. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | It annoys me that you HAVE to play the horrible single-player campaign to unlock parts to build a RT/VT/Mech/Mecha/BigFrigginRobot before you can play online, and I still haven't been able to get into a good multplayer match yet, but I haven't given up yet. At least they haven't already announced that they no longer care about the franchise yet. *ahem* *steel battalion* *cough*... Flag this | Edit this post |

| The skill is in picking a skillset that fits your gameplay style, and knowing how to time your attacks to get the most effect out of your skills. If there's no "skill" involved, then you'd have to explain why two people using the same character have vast differences in their effectiveness.
You have to THINK in an RPG, not TWITCH. Flag this | Edit this post |

| The lag doesn't just depend on your network card. In fact, that's about the least troublesome piece in the whole scheme. In fact, Dougie, don't forget that other than server overload, the game server itself has very little to do with ping as well. As long as the server isn't running above maximum capacity (either CPU or 'net bandwidth), the ony thing that matters is the lines, hubs, and repeaters that run between your house and the server. Once your packets leave your PC, NOTHING on your computer OR the game server will make ANY difference in your ping times.
Except on rare occasions where it might prevent background apps on your PC from hiccupping your net traffic, I honestly can't see how a "gaming" NIC could make more than 1 or 2 milliseconds difference than any other NIC, not counting the various brands that everybody knows puts out complete junk.
I'm willing to be proved wrong, but the implied statement is "this will drop your ping and give you an instant performance edge!" where it's more likely that the truth will be "this will use up an extra slot in your computer, cost you more than you wanted to pay for it, and even if the numbers look different you won't notice any difference at all when you're playing".
