| | I found this article lacked journalist integrity. It reads like an NVidia press release, complete with doctored benchmarks. Not to say your testing practices are flawed; just that they provided all the games that would put them in the best light. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I was initially very happy with this game as I'm a huge 4x fan and this really seemed to scratch an itch, but online play ruined it.
All the vet players in this game just spam missile (or their race's equivalent) frigates and don't bother/need to build any of the other ships. This invalidates both the cruiser class of ships completely and also 3/4 of the tech tree. I should know, I started doing it too but it makes it a boring spam fest. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Agreed. This review seems quite biased and your final score fails to take into account the true value of the content...or lack thereof.
This is a demo, and they should bill it as such. Expecting consumers to buy this for $50, and then slap down another $60 when the real game is finally released is ridiculous.
I'm a long time GT fan but this is crap. And as a long time Firingsquad fan, I'm even more disappointed in this inflated review.
For the sake of integrity, I think this deserves a second opinion from a different reviewer. Flag this | Edit this post |

| No need to bare teeth.
Not everyone is an overclocker. This site strives to appeal to the "hardcore gamer", which doesn't necessarily translate to the "hardcore nerd."
Sure overclocking is easy! But still...
Good point, though. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I'm 24 and your top video game moments pretty much mirror mine.
As everyone has already pointed out, your first gateway probably wasn't 1.6ghz, but that's okay.
But it looks like you missed out on the ancient days of DOS gaming on the 286, 386, 486, huh? Never made a boot disk to manage conventional memory just so some damn game would work? I think that was half the adventure!
Ah...memories.
Anyways, good work here on Firingsquad. I continue to enjoy your articles and all that good stuff. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Silly nerd...you don't have a wife!
Alright, jokes aside, this game is a beast.
Your article is alright, though lacking in depth and scope. To be fair though, for a homebrew review, it's tough to really flesh out hardware tests when you can only work with what you own.
For me, the biggest performance hit on this game is sound. If you check the forums, its confirmed that there is some sort of compatibility issue with Creative Labs X-Fi soundcards... so, I haven't gotten to enjoy a game yet with sound.
Maybe one day... Flag this | Edit this post |

| To be fair, the price of PC games (and games in general) has stagnated around the $50 mark for as long as I can remember. We are talking at least 15 years.
Given inflation and soaring development costs and I think thats pretty amazing. Of course, they move a ton more units now then ever before, but still.
And yes, we've all pirated some kind of software at least once in our lives. When it comes to games, I won't lie. I purchase the good ones, and pirate the ones I'm curious about. Like Doom3 (glad I didn't buy that crapshoot, and you wonder why ID complains about piracy...) and Sid Meir's Pirates (played this on the Genesis 10 yrs ago, you seriously didn't add anything new????).
But in general, I concur that piracy is bad for the industry. But so are bad, bug-ridden games.
In fact, the last game I BOUGHT (Supreme Commander) has been a huge disappoint due to compatibility issues with my soundcard (Creative Labs X-fi). For a game that underwent beta testing for an extended period, it is beyond me how it could ship with such a game stopping bug. If you enable sound while using a CB soundcard, your framerate drops by about 80%....... glad I paid for this!!!
I know its a double edged sword and that writing games for PC is tough because of the varied hardware involved, but come on. This is a pretty obvious one!

| » You used the word nuance seven times. The nuances of your editorial are lost upon me. I don't follow the point you are trying to make.
It seems like an argument that turn based is superior to real-time? Or maybe that the nuances of turn-based are better then the nuances of real time?
Have you played Company of Heroes or Supreme Commander? Those are both nuance heavy real-time strategy game.
In the end, RTS and turn-based can successfully co-exist without stepping on each other's nuances. As you've pointed out, each has its pros and cons, though you take a decidedly pro-turn-based agenda.
Have you played Hearts of Irons 2 or European Universalis III? These are games that successfully mix RTS with turn-based and play fantastically. The number of nuances they fit into these games is staggering.
And look at that, I too can use the word nuance exactly seven times!

| » Misinformed As someone running an SLI setup, let me tell you I would choose it over this Aegia PhysX crap any day. Lowest PhysX card I could find was $250! How is that any cheaper then a 2nd video card?
Your Geforce 7800 GT cost what, $280? SLI works for EVERYTHING and gives you a nice bump in visuals. Have you read any of the reviews on PhysX? Currently, Ghost Recon is the only big game to support it, and if you read any on the reviews, PhysX does little for this game. In fact, it DROPS framerates in explosions, albeit it does add a ton of extra particles.
PhysX is a waste of money. Aegia is indeed flawed. Link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/......=&Go.x=0&Go.y=0 Flag this | Edit this post |
