| sad that this time the consumers didn't really get to choose as the corporations did the choosing for us. Both formats (though I wouldn't even call it a format war) are still less than 10% of the total HD and DVD market.
I still don't think of this as a true format war, cause both still support the same format 1080i/1080p, and can be played on any of our HDTV sets...etc. Even the movie data on the disc are practically the same. I think the studios should support both, instead of deciding for the consumers what they want.
Eventhough HDDVD may be losing for now, their $130 1080i or $170 1080p HDDVD players is a good deal. Its only a little more than the high quality upscalers out there plus you get HDDVD play back. If your TV is a good 1080p model, you don't need a 1080p player cause the TV will convert the 1080i to a 1080p picture back on the screen with zero loss.
The cheapest Blu-Ray is about $300 but those don't have the hardware required for newer profiles (2.0 requires a ethernet port) and so you can't update your profile. So, your pretty much stuck with 1 choice (ps3) if you want a future resistance blu-ray player, where as even the $99 HDDVD player can get future updates. There are currently no stand alone Blu-Ray players that's out with profile 2.0 right now. I don't expect them to be under $300 when they come out either.
I'll get a blu-ray play if they win out in the end, but I'm waiting for the $99 models. Which will probably be 3-4 few years. But for now I'll be upscaling my DVD movies to 1080p on my $145 HDDVD player ($170 Toshiba A30 -$25 Amazon gift certificate). And since the US dollar practically lost 1/2 it's value, it's practically a $80 player...but that's another topic entirely. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I don't see why Nintendo has to foot the bill for stupid people.
In any of their commercials with people frantically playing, did you ever see one of them let go of the controller? No.
But Nintendo is a classy company and are taking a step to once again help out the idiots even though I don't think they should. Flag this | Edit this post |
