| I agree that computer gaming it really isn't for everyone and that's why gaming consoles are a good option..
I have had a total of 7 computers in a span of 17 years, I had a total of 2 hardware problems the first where with a fan giving out on a MSI Geoforce TI4200 (toasted) that I had to replace with a new Geforce FX 5700 (Same fate as the other) Not having to deal with warranties (long expired by then).
I am not a computer god but I am good at diagnosing. So many years at fixing pcs (and loving it ;) has its rewards
I work part time on a big electronics manufacturer as an SMT programmer and I program small components placement on chip placers like Panasonics CM-602 so I know the process a electronics pcb board has to go from flux paste, chip placement, re-flux ovens, Quality control, manual component placement, wave soldering ovens, functional testing, QA etc
Modern Electronics have a life span ranging from 2-3 years (most companies) but because of the recession some companies are going for a 1-2 years span.
my point is GET A GOOD WARRANTY! Do NOT settle for the default manufacturer warranty, those are made in accordance to the life spans I mentioned..
Hence Squared Trade success.. Flag this | Edit this post |

| which of my sisters are you referring? My left or right nut?
FSgeek does have a point about coming home tired and not wanting to deal with patches and updates etc.. But there are ways to do this well if you plan it right. I myself use Steam so no much of a hassle there most of the time
Soldier36 makes an even better point about the level of detail in a pc and if you have everything working right... No console can compare.
I have a good rig with xi-fi sound logitech Z-5500 speakers and a 32" samsung LCD. I do try to keep with my upgrades so I have NO consoles whatsoever I prefer to invest my hard earn money on my PC so my PC specs are High as I can afford couple this with some good FPS and RTS games there is no looking back..
Using vista ultimate 64 for a year with no problems and NO need for bios updates and overcloking NO registry hacks why Fix what isn't broken?
If you're having Many problems with your pc I recommend that you first test your game on another rig. I just don't pop a new game disk on my rig, I first test it on another rig that I use exactly for messing around with stuff on the OS like N-lite,linux, virtual pc and Game demos etc
Maybe I like the game maybe I don't because of some bugs. Even doing that I do get issues on my gaming rig but nothing that I can fix in minutes instead of hours. Flag this | Edit this post |

| It's Funny cause it's True..
On the other hand.. (pardon the pun)
They broke Moore's Law already from what I'm hearing so 10-15 seems to long so maybe 8 years sounds more reasonable for me..
So probably Mr Orion you could very well have your "dream date" with a realistic Lara Croft On Hand by then.. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Nowhere to be found in HP Online store.. further more.. I was only able to find Nvidia GPUs in HP "Entertainment and Performance" laptops and NO Gaming Branded ones.
What gives?
They probably saw Brandon's Review and said What the hell.. LETS RAISE THE PRICE TO 3500 bucks! Flag this | Edit this post |

| Your talking about AMD availability in Today's market!
Lets go back 7 or 8 years....
Did you know how many years AMD actually outperformed Intel? And Still they couldn't get major oem support like Dell
The talking back and fort between local oems about Intel getting them major price cuts if they sell only Intel products
I remember people talking about how Microsoft was an evil company and Bill Gates the Devil himself and some financial executive dude in a radio talk show said everyone thinks Bill is evil HA! that's because they don't know Craig Barrett!! Flag this | Edit this post |

| When you control 90% of the market and still you strong arm local OEMs into selling only YOUR product that's Monopoly...
Intel Used to do this before AMD was actually competitive...
Then came the athlon XP and started to get major oems support like Compaq and the smaller oems almost all of them carried AMD machines
This FORCED Intel to actually get competitive and to start to put out good cpus but their practices never ceased Dell anyone?
Dell romance with Intel changed when Intel went with Apple...
Michael Dell is cussing from his tomb ..;) Flag this | Edit this post |

| I remember working as a technician in 1998 and I was excited about the AMD k6 3d processor coming out here in San Diego in a few months and when the day came not ONE of the local retailers had it in stock and I was like wtf?
And I was friends with a local retailer and the only one that had AMD k6 3d processor publicity around the shop and had managed to get a few dozen units and those sold out immediately and they didn't order anymore because Intel mysteriously stopped shipping them Pentiums and they lost some orders because of that.
Then my friend called a local Intel sales rep and told him that they had to back order his units because of the great success in the Pentium sales they didn't had enough for HIS shop and told him to get some of those "new" amd processors coming out since they like them so much so he won't loose his clients and he did that exactly but most people didn't even knew AMD and they wanted Intels so basically my friend pull the plug on his AMD sales and waited almost 3 weeks until Intel started shipping them processors units.
In almost 5 years he didn't touch AMD because of this and I had to go to LA to get a k6 3d processor and still the experience was like shopping stolen goods or something and that is something I Wont soon forget so yeah this news is a huge thing YEARS in the making and Intel fan boys shouldn't complain since Intel have so much money because of their monopoly practices so It should be beer money for them right??
