| | Actually I have both formats at home; a PS3 (Blu-Ray) which Sony sent over for our FiringSquad review and the HD-DVD add-on disk drive for the Xbox 360 that I got on my own during Christmas break. Look for a review of the add-on disk drive next week. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | My last word on the matter...you are infering something that may or may not have been his intent when he made his statement. We don't know; we just present it. Other people on other web sites are having this exact same debate that we are having on this particular issue. That's not poor journalism; that's healthy debate on how just one quote can have many different meanings to different people. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Except the full quote is in the news post..there was no attempt to hide or take anything out of context.
BTW we are not the only web site that is posting similar notes and headlines about the Ars Technica article
Microsoft: HD-DVD Could Be "Next Betamax"

Microsoft: HD-DVD might be "next Betamax," switch to Blu-ray still possible

Microsoft Rep Says HD-DVD "The Next Betamax"
http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/360/microsoft-rep-says-hddvd-the-next-betamax-226205.php
I would agree that the Kotaku headline is indeed misleading but the other two and our own are not. And once again the author of the original article said "whoops" after that quote was made, which means even he felt that the Microsoft rep may have spoke out of turn. Flag this | Edit this post |

| There is nothing there in my view that was taken out of context at all...here is the exact quote again
We don't want to charge customers $200 extra for something that may be the next Betamax.
Sony has put all of their support into Blu-Ray; there's been no hint from them at all about backing down from that position. However, if a Microsoft exec is even hinting that they think HD-DVD could go the way of Betamax, that says something about their support of the format. Even the article writer himself said after that quote was made, "whoops", which indicated even he feels the Microsoft exec may have said more than they intended to do with that one simple statement. | | Nintendo has been very cagy about online multiplayer games for the Wii; all we know is that it will happen sometime in 2007 and considering that Nintendo has already delayed many aspects of the Wii's online features(news and weather channels and the web browser) we said it "might" be a year before online multiplayer comes to the console. That's our speculation. As far as 3-4 online games coming out in the next 3-4 months, I don't think that's true at all for the US release although in Japan that might be the case. | Hey guys
Sorry about the typos in the article.....they have been taken care of..I do send the articles for someone else to read over before it's posted but I don't blame that person..the mistakes were made by me so I'll take the blame.
Of course I could blame playing Prey for over 10 hours which made me dizzy and not able to catch the typos but that would be silly. ;) Flag this | Edit this post |
