| That's a silly conclusion to come to. Just a month or two ago we were running ads for PowerColor and Sapphire, not to mention BFG and XFX, in addition to EVGA. And of course, you all no doubt noticed the ATI CrossFire ads last month. And I don't see Dell advertising anywhere on this site, yet they're on the top 5 list. I'm also pretty certain EVGA isn't the only manufacturer making GeForce 8800 cards, or nForce 680i motherboards.
I don't think any companies would work with us if they felt we were biased in our coverage. Why would they want to? And in case you didn't know, our editorial team is completely separate from advertising. We have no say on what ads do and don't appear on the site, just as they have no say on what articles we do and don't write. Flag this | Edit this post |

| No offence, but your 20-shader 7900 GS is inferior to the Xenos GPU inside Xbox 360. Your GPU not only lacks a unified shader architecture, it also doesn't have as many shading units total as Xenos does. If you look on Google you should be able to find quotes from both ATI and NVIDIA on the efficiency gains from going unified. The 7900 GS also runs at slower core clock speeds than Xenos.
I also don't know why you think the 360 lacks support for AA/AF. That makes no sense, Microsoft and ATI have stated that AA is a requirement for ALL Xbox 360 games. Have you seen Gears of War btw? No frame rate problems there, and graphically it's ahead of all the titles you listed in your post.
I'm a PC gamer first and foremost, but to somehow suggest that a GeForce 7900 GS is more powerful than Xenos is laughable. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Gainward no longer has a US distributor, they're really only sold in Europe and select parts of Asia nowadays. As such, our relationship with them is gone, the primary Gainward guy now works for EVGA Europe. We do have OC'ed 7800 GS AGP cards though. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | The reason HL2 wasn't tested is because of the issues with Steam at the time of testing. As you probably know the WA area experienced some rough weather and Steam was down for quite some time. As a result, I wasn't able to test the cards with Lost Coast. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | It's been a year for all of us, so we may not be 100% correct on the amount of free space as we're going from memory, but it definitely isn't 20GB out-of-the-box and I'm pretty sure it was less than 15GB. I had less than 8GB free after a week of owning my 360, so my guess is either you just got your console or you aren't interested in game demos and Xbox Live Arcade. In my case I spend just as much time on Arcade than on the full-fledged games. I'm down to less than 4GB free and I don't have any movies, just game demos, saved games, and Xbox Arcade games. | Some quick comments (that's all I have time for at this time of the morning):
NV47 is the original codename for G70. The NV47 project was scrapped and NVIDIA went with G70 for 7800 GTX. So technically, you're both right, in a way.
Your comments on Cell: That's a very debatable topic, but I will say that you've seen nothing yet when it comes to PS3 physics. Sony is working with AGEIA on getting PhysX on PS3. Epic's Tim Sweeney and Mark Rein have commented on this, I believe they're going to get it into UT 2007 for PS3. Google that for my details... Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Well, normally they wait until Q1 of the year because that's the slowest time in the PC industry. The idea is by lowering prices in Q1, that will help to spur some sales. I think they're waiting until Q2 this year because of Core 2's dominance in terms of performance. AMD pretty much did the same thing last year with the X2, in fact, they raised prices slightly if you recall earlier this year. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I'd like to see some comments that back up this statement as well. If you're referring to my comments on Resistance, keep in mind that I've got very high standards for what I define as "next-gen" in large part because of my background with PC hardware. I've seen lots of true next-gen games and hardware thanks to my position here at FiringSquad.
In all honesty, the Xbox 360 doesn't have a lot of games that look next-gen to me either. The only 2 I can think of are DoA 4, and GoW. FNR3 looks nice, but they obviously focused their efforts graphically on the boxers themselves, the backgrounds are very low tech. NVIDIA does this a lot in their tech demos as well. | | Actually, I'd say $100 for this case is WAAAAY wrong. $200+ easily. I was debating about including shots of it compared against Thermaltake, Antec, CoolerMaster, and Lian Li cases I own, I guess I should have done that, because this case is as good, if not better than the aforementioned manufacturers. | froggz: I highly suggest you check out the last few pages of the DX10 Preview article. Specifically the comments from Tim Sweeney and our comments in the conclusion. DX10 isn't going to take over the gaming world overnight, in fact, Tim was reluctant to say it would be widespread 12 months from now in Dec'07.
Keep in mind how many years is took before DX9 took off. Shader Model 3.0 hardware has been out in the wild for years now, and we're just now seeing it really begin to take off. It's possible that DX10's acceptance may be faster, but since it requires Vista now, that could also hurt it. But I don't think DX10 is going to be mainstream for quite some time. Remember that the first DX10 titles are also going to be performance speedups. Considering that the Vista OS is going to have additional overhead, those speedups from DX10 could be negated by the new OS. We theorize about this in the DX10 Preview article... | | I ran the GTX and GTS in single card, but not SLI. Perhaps the reason your friend couldn't get it to work is because he was using the wrong driver. The driver that shipped with the first batch of retail 8800 cards was a pre-release driver that didn't support SLI. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | See pg1 of the review. There is an audience that wants a "custom" gaming rig but for various reasons (hassle, warranty, tech support, etc) doesn't want to build it themselves. Obviously this audience is growing or else Dell, HP, Gateway, and others wouldn't be getting into this market... Flag this | Edit this post |

| Yeah, personally I'll probably switch shortly after launch. I plan on building myself a new rig around that timeframe anyway, as my current PC is a little too loud for my tastes.
Eventually anyone that's a serious gamer is going to have to make the switch. The question is when? For some ppl, that may be on launch day, for others it may not be until DX10 hardware is less expensive, and/or when more DX10 games ship. I wouldn't be surprised if many of you for instance switch once Crysis ships. Flag this | Edit this post |

| egg: Yes, that is true too, I did go to 16xAF across the board, whereas the Core 2 article I didn't. Perhaps that would be another good poll question?
I did it to save myself some time, if I mixed in 8xAF and other settings in there the article would've taken even longer to publish. I figured since these were all high-end cards that I might as well crank up the AF. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Drivers, drivers, drivers!! Guys making comparisons between the Athlon 64 scores versus the Core 2 CPUs: keep in mind that we're using a different driver set, there also were patches released for a few of the games, so comparisons between the two #'s can't be made.
RE: Core 2 CPU scaling article: We'll consider doing it of course if the demand is there, but we've also got other articles in the pipeline as well. Flag this | Edit this post |

| In light of the emails I've received on G80 overclocking, I updated that page with the following text:
UPDATE: We've received quite a few emails asking how the overclocked GeForce 8800 GTS is able to match the stock GTX in performance, so we'll provide a few theories here. Most importantly, keep in mind that we're dealing with very early drivers, and we're still barely seeing the potential of the GeForce 8800 GTX. The bottom line is that the 8800 GTX has more performance headroom than the GTS, but perhaps we're not seeing that today due to its early drivers. Another possibility is that the games we're testing aren't demanding enough to really push the G80's new shader architecture, so once the GeForce 8800 GTS is clocked higher it's able to deliver performance comparable, if not slightly better than the stock 8800 GTS. | | No, it's correct. I think it's a driver issue as the game is brand new after all. NVIDIA probably just needs to optimize their driver a little more for Dark Messiah. We saw the same happen with BF2142 a little over a month ago if you recall... Flag this | Edit this post |

| Pretty disappointing to hear about guys blocking ads on a free website. Ourselves, and most of the other sites on the 'net are 100% dependant on ad revenue, you take away the ad revenue you take away the websites. It's as simple as that.
I haven't had a free weekend in 3 weeks, every weekend for the past month I've been testing something or writing an article on some new upcoming piece of hardware, not to mention all the giveaways we hold every year for our readers, last year we gave away an Xbox 360 Premium!
All we ask in return is that you load the ads and give us feedback on the articles so we can improve them. It's a shame to see that some can't be patient for 5 seconds for an ad to load... Flag this | Edit this post |
