| | Yeah, it would be one thing to distinguish it from the 8800GT by using all 55nm cores, but since the press release says there is a mix of 65nm and 55nm; it's pretty much the exact same card unless there are some multimedia related spec changes (like the 9500GT supporting VC-1 acceleration, etc.). | | All that said, I'm still going to roll with my 975X, Q6600@3.0Ghz, 4GB DDR2, and Crossfired 4850s for a while before I get into X58 with DDR3. | | Media playback wise the PS3 can do everything the 360 can do. For your extra $100 you get 20GB more HD and the most future proof Blu-ray player available. | 80% of Intel's sales are outside the USA. The sub-prime mortgage mess didn't effect them much because of this. Also, even in the USA people are still buying computers; they're just buying cheaper models of computers, which is why Intel's profit margin (lower end CPU=less margin) was down slightly this quarter.
Intel's future looks bright with Nehalem, X58 with Crossfire and SLI support, competitive server chip offerings to AMD's Opteron that are starting to cut into AMD's server market share, Centrino 2 already out, and mobile quad core just around the corner. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I wonder what the video game rental market is worth now? Also, does the video game market data include subscription revenue (e.g. WoW player subscriptions, XBox Live, etc.) and digital downloads (e.g. Wii VC, PS Marketplace, etc.)?
It's not like a movie needs a subscription to play it, but some games need subscriptions for multiplayer and persistent worlds hosted on servers. Flag this | Edit this post |

I don't personally see the actual console hardware going anywhere. What I could imagine in 10years is a console without any optical drive in it. I think we're set to see a Steam (Valve's DRM software for the PC) like product on the console front, and the death of physical media for the console.
Think of it as say 1TB of storage (not far fetched at all in 10years for a console) in a black box. You choose which games you want to "buy" and it downloads and decrypts it. Your purchase is then DRM locked to that particular console and/or your user account. Console makers have long wanted to get rid of the secondary sales market (bye bye EB Games, etc.) and 3rd party hack software running on their (yes it's theirs, even though you paid for it and think it's yours) console.
