| | Alan Wake's devs are not going to make the same mistake the Crysis devs did and make a game that causes 90% of the people who try and play it nothing but headaches and also disappointed a huge number of folks. More folks were unhappy with this title than I can believe but then consider how crap the performance is for this game. If it ran as smooth as UT3 it would be a huge hit ... | Please someone rate my entry ... I really need to get that LCS setup for my Thermaltake chassis. I spent well over my budget for my rig and I am tapped out so please help me get the LCS. I will happily give my V1 to someone who needs it if I win. :) Thanks for your vote. :D

| | I think the list is a pretty good list of top tier AAA games and totally don't see any major problems with it. Crysis is just not made for the mass market ... it is really a niche kind of game and kind of elitest at that. If you don't have the Uber computer you can't even hope to play this game the way it was meant to be experienced and that is a major negative. All of the games on the list above can be played exactly as they were intended to be played by anyone with a console for that game and that is what makes the list so good. No one is excluded because they are not PC power gamers ... Casual gamers pay the same amount (actually more since they don't use torrets and pirate games like hardcore gamers do) of money so they deserve to be recognized. | Crysis blows .... it performs horribly on the settings that it looks the best at and that was the selling point of the game. Also it is not even the best looking game on the PC ... Gears of War and UT3 easily beat it out imo. Don't get me wrong though Crysis is a good looking game and it is decent enough but to me it is not groundbreaking until it can run well on low end High powered rigs (Q6600, 8800 GT, 22" monitor res).
And talk about not understanding how to support your customers ... the damn patch is taking forever and I bet you anything when it comes out it barely addresses the main issue ... performance and optimization. I hope to God I am wrong but at this point I don't have any faith in Crytek ... they will have to show me the goods.
What is surprising to me though is that UT3 did not make the list. UT2K4 was the MP PC GoTY for 2004 and yet folks are not all over this version. Seems very strange to me. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Totally not true buddy. When HL2 first came out you could max it out and have it run smoothly at 60 fps or better with the equipment that was available at the time. Sure it cost money but the point is that it could be done. Same with Doom3 ... you could definitely run the game at even Ultra settings if you had the top GPU at the time and this was before SLI. Sure it would give you fps in the 40s but again that was much better than what we are getting with Crysis and plus 6 months later Doom 3 was pretty easy to run.
Now Crysis on the other hand is a complete mess. There is NO equipment out today that can run the game at a decent frame rate with AA and at a high resolution. This is the first time I can ever remember a PC game being this ridiculously demanding and unoptimized. Heck there are parts of the game that are fine and then all of a sudden you will hit an area that causes your system to drop to like 10 fps. That is unacceptable ... then you HAVE TO crank your settings down ... and this takes you out of the immersiveness. With any of the other AAA titles out today you simply do not have to do this.
I don't understand how this game is getting over 8.0 ... I think it is very boring for the most part and basically like Far Cry for the majority of the game. I am not impressed at all by the suit and the only weapon I really like in the game is the Scar. Give me UT3 (and I have my issues with that game as well but ...) over this game any day of the week. The thing that really bothers me is how much the lead dev was talking up SLI and having a quad core system and yet the game's SLI support under DX10 is a joke and as far as I can tell the game does NOT utilize all four cores very effeciently. It is going to take a lot of patches to make this game any good at all imo. I wouldn't give it past a 7. I am not even that impressed with the graphics overall. Sure the tropical settings are lush as usual but if you look at the interiors they are very poorly detailed in relationship to Gears of War, BioShock, HL2:EP2, and CoD4. And the vehicles are crap imo ... especially the Helicopters. And the physics are questionable as is the A.I. which is pretty stupid if you ask me. Just turn on Cloak and watch the idiot A.I. have no idea what to do ... especially if you are in a vehicle.
This game is the biggest disappointment I have had from a game in a very long time. Maybe ever. I spent a decent amount upgrading my rig and I definitely expected to see a much more polished game than this put on retail shelves. Flag this | Edit this post |

I already have the V1 product but what I really need to Overclock my heavy duty rig to the max is a great LCS system. I really wanted to get the Thermaltake Armor LCS but it was out of the budget so I couldn't do it. This would be great though as I it would make my system complete and push my system to unholy speeds.

| | What are you talking about? Blizzard does not make more Money than Activision. As far as 3rd party publishers Activision was second to only to EA when it came to publishing Software and developing games. I really don't know if this is a good deal or a bad deal yet. If they leave well enough alone on both ends then perhaps the good news is that there will be more money for the development of new and exciting IP. | I don't get why PC games get such a pass when they ship out and are basically crap. All people can say is wait for the patch. Hello folks ... don't you find that logic pretty F**ed up? I would think most folks would want a game that works out the box or at least doesn't have as many bad bugs as games these days.
I just don't get ... the quality is getting worse but because the games look better people seem willing to tolerate it and by doing so are only asking for trouble. Now PC devs are lazier than ever ... all they want to do is get something out the door by a certain date to maximize their profits. So now we get this ... every AAA FPS game that ships is crap until the first patch.
I wouldn't mind if we paid half now and half when the game was ACTUALLY DONE. But the way it is now I give all the devs the full price and they give me a broken turd of a game that gets incremently better over time because of patches that get released. Bravo PC users we have really done a great job demanding quality products.
Now I really understand why so many people download games without paying ... these devs don't deserve our money if they are going to treat us with such disrespect. I doubt if they really test their games these days ... if so how do some of these bugs get missed? I just don't understand it. But I will be so glad when the patch comes out.
After this game, Gears of War (no patch has even been announced), and Crysis (patch coming to enable stuff that should have been working out the box ... lame) I am done with PC gaming ... consoles are getting all the attention these days and lately FPS games on the 360 have been done pretty well. I am glad I have Vista even though I may not be able to run this game with Very High Settings for at least a year. It seems like it would take two GTX cards in SLI to get the max settings and that is just plain unacceptable if you ask me. One good GTX or Ultra and a good CPU with 2GBs Ram should really be enough so I am not happy and not impressed. I may end up passing on this and just playing Gears and UT3. | Just be aware that you would actually be wasting money because that 4 gig memory space gets used up by video ram addressing if physical ram is actually present so you would only see 3.3 Gigs of your 4 gigs of ram under 32 bit XP and 32 bit Vista. The only way you would ever able to truly access 4 gigs of ram or more is too go to a 64 bit OS and then load up with 5 gigs or more of ram (because that 4 gig space is always going to map to video ram ... so if you had 4 gigs and you bought two GTX cards and put them in SLI you would actually have less than 3 Gigs for Vista to see). It is a pretty well general rule that if you are going to stick with a 32 bit OS you shouldn't go above 3 gigs of physical ram or you start losing the ram and therefore wasting money. Even a 320 gts takes away 320 MB of that 4 gig space.
In your case you would los3 640 MB of ram (GTS 640) so in effect Vista will only see and thus be able to access 3.3 Gigs of Ram. But if you got just 3 gigs Vista would actually pretty much see all of that as there is no physical ram to map to that area virtual ram addressing is used. So you wouldn't waste money. I always tell people these days the Aegia PPU can be found on the web for $129 so get that instead of that extra 4 gig ... UNLESS you know you are going to move to a 64 bit OS.
