| » Screenshot quality I've emailed through a more detailed explanation, but I'll ask here anyway (because there might be others wondering the same thing):
In terms of screenshots for consoles, most people won't have anything that can capture component input from a console, and lower quality video capture loses a lot of the detail. I'm looking at doing a comparative piece of sorts, but feel that I'll be let down in screenshot comparisons because I don't have the gear to capture properly (I can capture in S-Video, but it's not the same).
What would be the recommended course of action? Do what I can and just mention that I didn't have the right equipment, or skip screenshots comparisons altogether? Flag this | Edit this post |

| I've started, but I'm waiting on a reply to my email before I get too carried away.
Hopefully they are actually checking that email address.... Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I'm not really one to comment though - I asked a few friends of mine to vote for me and now I'm 14-15 votes clear of the next person.. I didn't think it'd matter that much, but now that I see how many votes people are getting, I rather wish I hadn't. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I'd take a guess and suggest that some other entrants (or friends of) are down-voting other entries. There's some good works out there with lower than expected scores, which is a little sad to see. I know I've personally rated a few 9s and 10s out there. Sure, they might not be the greatest pieces of writing, but if it's informative, on topic and interesting enough to keep me reading, it deserves to be scored well. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Thanks for the input. :) I've spent too much time writing technical docs, so I'm trying to work my way out of that style. I'll definitely take your comments into consideration. ;) Flag this | Edit this post |

| p4l1ndr0m3: You're pretty much on the ball there. While I was reading through the rules I saw this:
We encourage every one who is competing to self-promote his or her entry. You can ask your friends, neighbors, co-workers or distant cousins to rate and vote for your work. They will have to register to vote, but registration is free and once they are registered they can vote during each round.
I work on a couple gaming websites and on each I asked a few of my closer friends if they wouldn't mind coming to vote for me. You can see one of the threads here - http://www.beefysworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4095
They might all sound the same because most of them are gamers...
OgreFade: Thanks for trying, but p4l wasn't far off the mark. In regards to a scoring system, as I noted at the bottom of the article, the review was written for another site, which was written following their protocols. I'd quite happily include a breakdown of scoring factors and a final score. It's already been suggested in the main cluster comments that editing isn't really appreciated, so I'll just let it go for now. If I make it to the 2nd round, then I'll take it all under my wing. | If someone does edit, then people who have previously scored may not necessarily change their scores to reflect the changes, so it shouldn't really matter. Someone that edits shows that they can make use of criticism and comments to fix up their piece, instead of disregarding comments completely.
But of course I'm going to say that because a few people pointed out some minor problems in mine which I fixed up. :) Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Thanks. For starters I'll play it safe, and if that doesn't seem to work, I'll do something a bit more risque in the 2nd round. Should give me time to whip up an interesting little video or something special ;) Flag this | Edit this post |
