| Hey, man!
Actually, little has happened since the contest closed. I'm waiting to get some of the remaining items from the contest settled, but it's my hope that as soon as everything slows down a bit at FS, we'll be in good shape to move forward. :)
How have you been? It's been a long time! Flag this | Edit this post |

| WOW.
Man, that's a helluva nice bit of work, there. I kept a spreadsheet myself - but... WOW.
Sir, I bow down to your diligence and raw skill. :)
Thanks for the nice comment. I can honestly say, I do fully intend to pursue writing in the future - participating in this contest has really rekindled my interest in it. (In case I didn't mention this before... anyone who wants to get in touch with me to discuss that, please do. ;)
dave
PS - Knuckles - your presence in the contest from start to finish was a huge boost - and your work in the gaming contest is amazing. You're at the heart of a core group of people who really keep the community of this site going, Sir. Hats off to you. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Grape: Understand the frustration, for sure... but honestly, your voting and participation really wasn't a waste at all in my eyes.
Whatever the end voting did mean, it was really a huge plus having people like you get into the contest. It was always really nice seeing encouraging comments from people I knew, but having someone who was sort of 'impartially commenting' offer advice, criticism or praise REALLY added a lot to the contest.
I assume you meant the comment more in a "I feel like my vote didn't matter" type of way, but honestly.. the contest was infinitely better because of the participation of people like you. I'm really grateful, GrapeApe.

Edit: I've often wondered - GrapeApe and Grape@Work... both you? Flag this | Edit this post |

| Thanks, qmak. I really appreciate that, buddy. :)
Can't win 'em all, what can I say. The contest was really enjoyable, and a definite positive experience for me. Having had the chance to interact with really great people on the site has been icing on the cake, for sure. Flag this | Edit this post |

| First - thank you very much to those of you who supported me, including the two anonymous people who posted the nice messages. It means a lot to me to have had the support and encouragement from your words. It can be discouraging to lose - it really does lessen the blow when you hear things like that sent. I only wish that I knew who you were, so that I could thank you personally. Everyone who was so gracious with their time in writing comments, rating the articles, and making suggestions: You made the contest what it was, and I will always be grateful. That goes especially for the contestants who didn't make it through the rounds, but still found it within them to be so helpful with their postings and time.
Jacobvandy: Congratulations. I'm really happy for you, and I hope that you recognize the opportunity that you have been given. Since this is a gaming site, and we were down to a 1v1 situation... I guess the best thing is to say:
"GG, man." :)
Finally, thanks to FiringSquad for the opportunity to come out and compete in the contest. Not winning in the end was a pretty brutal blow, but there can only be one winner, and I respect the difficult decision that you had to make.
I'd definitely be interested in hearing back from anyone who did take the time to follow the contest, including any other site editors who might be looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated writer. :)
Thanks, everyone. I'll try and write something a little more eloquent once I've had a chance for this to sink in. Flag this | Edit this post |

| @Kevin:
Heh - yeah, rrr66 is a relative of mine. :) I assume that f3m4 is one of Vandy's guys, though - or maybe someone I owe money to or something.
Edit - f3m4 - Thanks for the correction. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Sorry, bud - but nice try.
Here's the information available:
From BucNews:
8:30am May 12th:
Vandy 49(82) - 54(82.6) - 63(84.6)
...and now:
Vandy 56(82.7) 58(83.4) 66(85.2)
...all very clearly "10" votes for him.
The funny part is that even though the updates have been posted so frequently, someone would try making a statement like that. :)
I know, guys, I shouldn't feed such a blatant troll - but when someone calls something out directly like that, a response is required.
Edit - PS - Thanks for saying I'm a nice guy, though. I do appreciate that! :) Flag this | Edit this post |

| Yeah, Buc, you're right. It can be a really depressing profession that way - worse, when you have a problem user who (whenever they have an issue) shout it to the rafters, and then no "oops - mea culpa" follow up email when the cause is them.
In other words:
(User has no idea how to do an Excel function, and screws it up, logs trouble ticket)
*Trouble ticket takes more than 10 seconds to resolve*
Email to: IT Dept
CC: President, VPs, anyone who will listen
Subject: Poor IT Support
*blablabla*
(Then IT resolves issue, showing user how to resolve Excel problem)
...but no follow-up email to the Pres, VPs, etc to say "Actually, I simply have no idea how to use Excel and IT saved me".
That happens... occasionally. :) Flag this | Edit this post |

| Thanks, man... nice of you to say.
I agree with you that recruiting is a tough thing to do, especially in a discipline where - let's face it - most of us aren't known for our outgoing nature. Still, though, there were lots of aspects of this contest that were a stretch out of my comfort zone (including submitting my work to be judged in the first place!). | | Yep - agree 100%. Anyone who I've asked to vote has been asked to avoid the other articles altogether. Maybe that does a disservice to the site, but everyone that I've asked to vote has a personal connection with me (or my immediate family), and they wouldn't be able to help but be biased - so to avoid that altogether, I just sent them the links for my own articles, and asked them to stay within those.
