| Did you ever play Wizardry 8? Sure, the graphics were dated even in 2001, when it was released, but it's one of the best RPGs I've played in years. A pity it was likely Sir-Tech's swan song.
I can still recall playing the original Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord on my family's Mac Plus, about 20 years ago. I'm not sure whether I should be proud or embarrassed. ;) Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Your title mentions "FPS Gaming", but you focus exclusively on multiplayer. That's big for a lot of us - heck, I've played UT2k4 competitively for almost 3 years now, and UT3 can't come soon enough! - but I still suspect that most FPS gamers are killing stuff offline. Epic's Jeff Morris, for example, has repeatedly mentioned that their own customer surveys show most purchasers of UT2k4 never took the game online. In other words, it's probably worth remembering that these statistics describing online play only characterize part of the market - maybe 20%, maybe 45%, but probably still less than half. Perhaps this will change as broadband penetration increases Stateside, but I'm not aware of any good sources on such statistics. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Part of your blog seems to suggest that Oblivion's dozens of hours of quests ultimately provide no meaning within the gameworld (that is, your choices have no in-game consequences; other gameworld characters don't recognize your accomplishments; you can become the Master of all guilds, including those with conflicting aims; etc.), yet you also proclaim that Oblivion "is absolutely the finest work of pc-game art that has yet been released". I've seen this perspective quite a bit, and I have to admit I don't understand it at all. (GameSpy was actually most schizophrenic in this sense, lauding Oblivion in its GOTY write-up and then honoring Oscuro's mod for fixing many glaring problems with the game as it shipped.) If Oblivion suffers from such serious flaws - and I agree that it does, having sunk over 100 hours of my own time into Cyrodiil - why do you also feel that it's the best game ever created? | | Good introductory write-up and breezy style. I'm still working with two totally segregated systems - a home theater setup (also for console gaming) and a gaming PC - but I'm sure I'll make the leap eventually. I'm grabbing more and more of my television content online anyway. Flag this | Edit this post |
