| » Mmm.. I have an old Canopus card and I played many games (including the original Tomb Raider) with it. I still have it installed in an old system with Windows 95 (not connected to a network). I remember the old card was capable of stereoscopic 3D with any game, as long as it was using DirectX 5 (did they take that support out on newer versions of DX?)
It was pretty good at the time, although I admit to be nauseated by heights, and this made it more realistic in games. As others said, nothing new here. Also, glasses were fine in 1995. I see a lot of companies trying to push this crap again when it didn't work back then for the mass market. There is stereoscopic 3D without glasses already. Sharp and Grundig have TVs and monitors in development, and I rather have 3D without glasses than with them. And we need standards too. I don't want to see proprietary crap. | As Gundam said, they want to stop the 2nd hand market. They are pushing us towards console only gaming.
Piracy is EA's excuse. In the fantasy world they live in (together with the RIAA/MPAA), a pirated copy is a lost sale. A pirated copy DOES NOT equal a lost sale. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Exactly... ...and what if your drive gets hosed and you don't have a chance to "de-authorize"? Those activations can go away and you are out of a game years down the line.
DRM is useless. It penalizes the paying customers, while pirates get a better version. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Maybe... That is part of the problem. Most people are seeing this game as a single player offline game, which is obviously NOT. EA should have marketed it as a MMO requiring accounts, something like Guild Wars, perhaps?
I won't be buying this digital restrictions infested game any time soon. If they remove that crap, I'll pick it up, otherwise it can rot on the shelves for all I care. Console versions are another option if they want my money. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » I'll second that As one of the 4 owners ;) of the PhysX card, I'd like to see that comparison as well. Also, I'd like to know if nVidia is going to keep the support for the dedicated PPU or intends to orphan us. UT3 and Warmonger perform at slightly faster frame rates in my rig, with a Core2Quad 6600 (stock speed), GeForce 8800GT(512MB) and PhysX card. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I hope they open their own site. Gamespot is not a credible source anymore. I was there for a long time as a subscriber, but I stopped supporting them with my cash when Greg left. I won't even click on anything that links to Gamespot, as I don't want to help their advertiser's counter.
To quote myself on the reply to the post in 1up: Game reviews will no longer be a deciding factor for me when I buy a game. I'll wait for demos or for word of mouth from friends and relatives who share my taste in games. And just out of spite, I won't buy any games with the Eidos brand on them. | Indeed. I'm amazed at this triple setup and how fast it can run everything...but Crysis. This only proves to me that the game is just a very poorly optimized hog. Makes me wonder what machines they developed (and tested) it with.
To the guy below. Time will tell what the problem is with Crysis. You could be right or wrong. We'll see... I program for a living and I don't release a product to the market with serious "bugs", as you want to call them (I call that shoddy programming). I'm tired of companies releasing unfinished products to please the bean counters. So don't give me that patronizing tone based on your little experience with your program. | Indeed. It seems Crytek dropped the ball on this one. I wouldn't call this game revolutionary, when even a rig with a Quad Extreme cpu and dual 8800GTX cards in SLI can't run it properly. Looks more like "unoptimized" to me. If it was revolutionary, it would run well on high end rigs only, which would be acceptable. This one doesn't. What machines did they use to develop this game?
Unreal 3 and other newer games look just as good and can do it without putting a high end rig to its knees. Unreal 3 can get hardware physics assistance as well. We'll see if it gets any better with more patches. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Spent about $800 upgrading my rig. Went from a P4-3.2GHz-HT/2GB DDR/GeForce 7600 AGP(512MB) to a QX6600/2GB DDR2/GeForce 8600GTS (512MB). I think I'll go for the eVGA tradeup program and get a GF8800GT, which wasn't available when I built my rig 3 weeks ago. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Indeed. The author gets hyped about HD-DVD, but I don't really see myself paying extra for a little more clarity. The differences don't jump on your face, unlike DVD vs. VHS. I have a 1080P set, a PS3 and an upconverting DVD player. DVDs _ARE_ good enough :P (PS3 collects dust) Flag this | Edit this post |

| | It didn't look like you were ;) Sony is wasting time trying to push the PS3 as an all around multimedia center. They are working on TV tuners and pushing BD instead of worrying about the main issue, which is making more and better games. After all, it is a _Play_station. The name says it all. To gamers and the general public, the machine is still a game system. And with that perception, the general public sees it as an expensive game system with barely any games to play. | | Indeed. As a PS3 and 360 owner, I can say the PS3 is a major disappointment. Interesting to see that the AAA titles can't do 1080i (yep, I refuse to upgrade my HDTV set) but 720p/480p. Lair was one of the games I was hoping would make my PS3 see some use since Resistance at launch, but it is a flop. Heavenly Sword looks good (at least the demo plays well) but plays at 480p in my set :P All my gaming is being done in my PC and 360, and both can do 1080i in my set :) Flag this | Edit this post |
