| I have an 8600GS you tell me ;) but seriously the problem is the money, I don't know when i'll be able to upgrade, i'm hoping by early next year but from the sounds of it i'll be better off getting the GTX 260, I want good looking games now(ish) not in a year's time
and what makes you think devs will support DX11 so quickly? Flag this | Edit this post |

| | *sigh* from the sounds of it it's PC n00bs like you who are some how allergic to the simple task of putting a disc into a cd drive that could potentially be partly to blame for this current crisis in PC gaming (no pun intended) Flag this | Edit this post |

| I have got to say I am 'not' impressed, being on the market for a card atm I was tossing between the GTX260 and the HD4870 and was then thinking that this new GTX260 might do the trick, but from the benchmarks i've been looking at the performance gains seem marginal at best, only the OC versions seem to get a gain, of course there's the question of when and if and for how much they'll be down here in Australia
I was originally leaning towards the HD4870 as every other benchmark except firingsquad had the HD4870 ahead but now they all have them neck and neck and so the GTX260 is now the favorite as PhysX>DX10.1 plus much lower power consumption, not to mention those recent beta drivers that claim up to 10% performance on a number of games
I just want to ask this, from your thoughts, which should I get? Flag this | Edit this post |

| | gotta agree with almost everything you said (especially steam, I have 56k and I loath steam, haven't touched it since hl2 ep1, that's right, I haven't played Orange Box and proud of it) except putting in a disc to play a game, is it really that hard putting a disc into a disc drive? no actually (think of console users, they must be ready to explode! /sarcasm), only if you don't have the disc if you know what I mean Flag this | Edit this post |

| I was looking at getting either a 4870 and a 260, the price pushed me to the 4870, originally they were only 25bux difference but then the 4870 had a price drop of 40bux so unless the 260 can price match it i'm not interested, also the 4870 can do crossfire so I don't know why you only mention SLI
(Australian prices btw) Flag this | Edit this post |

| wasn't it the 9800 versing the GF-FX?
I take it that the 4800 series are doing well for such a comment, not surprising, i've got a new computer (prebuilt from aldi, so sue me) and I am gonna swap out the 8600gt for a 4870 (in case you were wondering, the vidcard was the only dodgy part of the PC, it had a Q6600 and 2gig ddr2 ram)
I was actually thinking of the GTX 260 but a price drop today at the place I was gonna get it from has made up my mind for the 4870 Flag this | Edit this post |

| in the short term it may not seen like a problem but in the long term you'll be pulling your hair out of your head
though I honestly can't understand why they bother putting that stuff in their games as the pirate versions will do away with it anyway so only the legit buyers have to worry about it Flag this | Edit this post |

| | over 200?....yea....i think i'll skip this one, i haven't played the originals so luckily if i am missing out on something, i won't know about it :P (i actually have copies of both but I saw my brother playing the original and it looked dodgy, not visually, but how you play the game) Flag this | Edit this post |

| | if new versions of windows are going to be released this soon after each other that pretty much guarantees I won't be 'buying' windows again, not wasting 1000bux every 3 years, that's probably how much a hardware upgrade would be :/ Flag this | Edit this post |
