| keep doing these vandy. i read them every week. even if i don't agree with everything you say, it's always insightful and keeps bringing me back.
:)
more relevantly, i feel like not having demos definitely helps some pirates justify their choice to pirate, on the other hand i think it's GOOD that multiplatform is becoming more prevalent, because it will hopefully make console games realize they need to compete with PC games. i remember the olden days of console gaming where PCs lagged behind in terms of gameplay, graphics, and depth (i386 and 486 days, Win 3.x days). While they were good days, there was a clear disparity back then and it took a lot to be a PC gamer. with multiplatform games, it means that PC gamers have more choice (if sadly at the cost of quality at times) and a larger audience.
Strangely enough, i feel like the PC has often thrived on exclusivity (kind of touched upon in your "consolitis" discussion), and now that that exclusivity has turned into something more negative, PC gamers feel turned off to their beloved platform. i think we should focus on the positives, and recognize that PC gaming has always found its most interesting and innovative games during times when the spotlight was OFF the PC. | you "can't" understand why no demos would increase piracy? and then you say exactly why it CAN increase piracy? i'm a bit confused.
but i definitely DON'T agree with you saying that there's nothing wrong with people pirating/torrenting games that have no demos as a way to "demo" the game. it's totally unacceptable. going to a friends house, assuming that friend has purchased the game, to try it out is really, really different than pirating or torrenting a game.
