Sony's out to meet the Halo challenge and one of the titles they're hoping to steal Microsoft's thunder with is Warhawk.

Halo3 beta is basically just new maps for Halo2. The new gameplay, weapons and vehicles add very little to it (the spartan laser is a silly addition).

Hopefully the single-player sucks less than Halo 1 & 2. If I have to spend another hour wandering through a maze of corridors dealing with the f***ing "flood" again, the disk is going back on sale real fast as playing multiplayer with hordes of abusive teenagers just isn't fun.

Warhawk looks like fun though, it wouldn't be hard for it to be visually superior to Halo3, as long as it's fun. But, again, I don't see me doing any multiplayer which pretty much rules it out entirely.

I flat out refuse to believe there is ground combat in this game until i see a picture.

The link on the second page says 'conclusion' when it links you back to the main page.

Um yeah...go over to GameTrailers and you'll find plenty of videos showing ground combat.

Halo 3 killer? That would be good IMO, the Halo series has been going severely downhill, MS needs a wake up call!

Which beta-testers? Pretty much all the reviews or references (like in this article) have been going with a "meh" for Halo3, both on graphics and gameplay.

Halo2 was already nothing to write home about. Halo3 will sell on brand name, just like Spiderman 3 is selling on brand name, but that's about it.

I suppose MS is well aware that Bungie has not done such a good job this time: they moved the Halo release date to September, which is a less competitive period than October/November (originally planned release date).
Some thought this was to counter some PS3 or Wii release, but after seeing the beta, the general consensus is that it's just a loss-cutting move.

Maybe you're right, but at least my problem isn't wearing blinders, good luck with that :).

>Read the comments:

Yeah, I did. Those that don't fall in the "meh" or negative category are hopeful that things will improve since it's just a beta...
Compare that to all Warhawk betatesters reviews and comments, which are typically enthusiastic *despite* the regular crashes (while Halo3 betas seems to be overall a more stable experience). To still want to play despite lots of crashes means the gameplay has to be Good(tm).

FWIW it's the same picture on all major review sites, FiringSquad & Gamespot aren't exceptions.

Maybe you've got a high enough opinion of yourself to dismiss them all, but then, that's your problem, not mine. :)

"Which beta-testers?"
The ones playing Halo 3 'Beta' currently, the 40k people online every night since it has come out.

"Pretty much all the reviews or references [...]"
Because we all know that everyone believes and follows reviews guidance, yep we all do...
