» Enemy Territory: Quake Wars Review

Jakub's most anticipated game is finally here. And it's... rough. A diamond, but very rough.

I totally didn't like ET:QW. They were the only competition to BF series and they blew it. Its pretty funny because I admin over at the EA 2142 forums and it was amazing how many people there were like ET will kill BF!!! Then to see most of them come back and say ET stinks.

I think they could have done so much better and tried to reinvent the genre of games that BF has stood on the top of for so long. My conclusion was ET is Quake 3 with vehicles in maps that give the illusion of being large even though they are not. I mean, to run and gun with a pistol and 0wn is just wrong.....

I stopped playing the BF series after BF2, so full of bugs and completely unbalanced piece of crap. I thought I paid too much for it and I even got it for free from a friend who worked at EA at the time. I can't comment on 2142 since I was not even close to buying that but if it follows the BF series it's a POS.

In BF2 as an infantry man you were pretty useless and it was all about vehicles and it was really just about who had the best pilots in the game. No I have much more fun in Quake Wars sure it's faster pace and all but the mix in realism and action in BF2 was just stupid. Fall 2m and die run into a pretty much stationary vehicle and die but take 20 bullets in the chest and keep on fighting. No that kind of thing never made sense to me it was just stupid and irritating.

» Controls Lock UP
This game has so many problems.

1) It feels jerky even though FRAPS claims I am getting a smooth frame rate

2) The reg seems to be pretty awful - almost as bad as CS:S on a 33 tick server

3) My controls lock up and my computer goes 'beeeeeeep' sometimes. Not what you want from an online shooter.

4) Adverts in game, that I wasn't warned about at the time of purchase. Is this illegal?

All-in-all..... 'bag of shite'.

You should get the linux version (don't know if it's out yet). There are no ads and the computer should not freeze.

Although, it could be argued that I shouldn't have to buy the Linux version. I already own the Windows version, which *should* work...

You just download the linux binaries and copy the data from the CD or something. At least you don't have to buy two versions of the same game.

» Can't believe people like this game...
Run at light speed, die in 2 seconds, the aiming feels very, very awkward (I agree with everyone else, its like the animations themselves aren't smooth), it also feels like the physical characters have no weight or inertia to them, people move and stop on a dime, spin, as though gravity doesn't affect them, etc, etc.

In a world of GRAWS and Vegas's and Battlefield 2's, this game just feels all sorts of wrong in the way it plays.

I feel the same when playing this game "how could people like this game?" Battlefield 2 ripoff? I really hated my experience with enemy territory and quit right away for several reasons. Now TF2 on the other hand I am playing 4-5 hours a day and enjoying every minute it has something that etqw doesn't and thats polish

Fair review. But, you forgot to knock it for being the first "T" rated Quake game. Subtract 3 % points from final score just for that =P.

And another 10% for it being sold on consoles and being released like 2 years late.
