What gives, no FX chip? No, 3.2+GHz dual core with 6-8Megs of L3 cache. Seriously, 3+ years (with AMD’s built in delays) for a > 4 core and > 8Megs of L3 cache?? Intel has 12Megs of L2 cache today!! I hate Intel, but my next system after my Deneb upgrade will be Intel. I’m calling it, time of death, November 16, 2008. RIP AMD. NVIDA, watch your back. | Probably a good thing no 12MB L3. Recall benefit of 512K to 1024K.. not much, and diminishing thereafter.
IMHO, no company ever won with more cache alone (or Ghz for that matter). K6-III L3 cache? Prescott 2MB cache. Probably better to have good balance of size, associativity and especially low latency. If need large cache probably didn't design core well.
Personally, I'm more excited to see developments in HTPC and notebook space (Intel, AMD, and maybe even ARM).» Login to reply to this |

| mr.wielder: Intel has inexpensive chips. Look at the E8500. If you don't have 200 to spend on a CPU then you are right, beggars cant be choosers but otherwise AMD is not competitive in today's desktop/gaming applications.
