I feel while intresting it kind of isn't the ideal build path since it is focused to much on a ground up build. If Firingsquad in the future where to take the same amount of cash and work in an AMD/Intel based option it might be better. The reason is I have an AM2 motherboard which is about a year and a half old and if I was to upgrade it probably would be to toss a new CPU into the system and maybe some more RAM. This guide also doesn't take into acount the SLI/Crossfire needs some gamers might want or in some cases already have.

I think in the future a AMD/Intel based set up and a Crossfire/SLI build should be included. Of course this is based on the price point since entry level costs might make it impossible to find a SLI board. Also this would give a build guide that could work very well for people who want to choose better than entry level for some items since they could pick the mid-range motherboard and entry level CPU to get the Crossfire support for example.

I don't understand why $500 is the entry point (too low) and then it jumps to $1000 (too high).

$700 should get you a decent machine that is oodles more powerful than the $500.

I find the people I know, and myself spend around that on a box.

I think 500 as an entry point is fair. True that you and your friends spend 700-800 on a decent computer, but the article was written IMO as a guide for people at different tiers of disposable income. This shows that you can spend 500 and still be able to run games.

It's hard for me to say whether or not to add a section for the 750 price point because in the article it does say that the reference is used to give you an idea of what to/what not to stretch your budget on.

I think that my idea of having both Intel and AMD as well as NVIDIA and ATI based systems would help with this area. Some people might want to buy a better part and being able to select between a $500 and a $1000 bugget part would help built a good middle ground machine.
