| This isnt a new form of RTS, its RTT (Real Time Tactical) just like Ground Control 1&2 were - old games though damn pretty back then. Cant comment on the game as I dont play single player fests - the AI hasnt improved enough in the 20 years ive been online and I much prefer my prey live and running (come try a MMORTS) - only game thats good for single play and AI is Thief series ;) Link: http://www.mmortsgamers.com/» Login to reply to this |

| Idk bout you guys but I am reading a lot of and I mean a lot, of hate about this game.
1st DRM (Steam & Windows Live) = hate
2nd Tactically simple = hate
3rd Small army size = hate
4th Skirmish Mode (?) = hate
5th Software installation issues = hate
6th ppl cant figure out how to play offline = hate
This game is getting terrible reviews from actually players who are not Warhammer fan boys (no offense but many of you luv this game because you luv Warhammer). There are 28 1 star reviews on Amazon. I am not going to shell out $50 bucks for a game that is this bad which sucks cuz I loved DoW1 (I didn't care for CoH).» Login to reply to this M ichal (312) Mar 17, 2009 - 10:46 am
| like I wrote below, if you expect a DoW1-style game, you may be disappointed (like I was) at the reduced scale. But if you focus on the game itself, you start realising that it's tons of fun, has a certain "addiction" factor with all the experience and loot and IS tactical. I still have yet to try MP, I'm sure that's fun, too.
Installation was annoying, I agree. But that's a one-time thing. And at this moment I eperience no bugs in the game. I did experience BSOD crashes at first, but I'm not sure if that was b/c of my OC or because the game had some memory bug which was patched.
If you get a chance, try it out, watch some videos, give it a chance, don't just go by ppl's comments. Someone's always gonna dislike any game. Gamespot gave the game 8.5 and FS gave them high scores too, and I think if you focus on the game w/o comparing it, it deserves these marks.» Login to reply to this

| 1.)Steam and Windows Live are pretty much the future of PC gaming. The ease of which you can purchase and download games is a great thing. I'm not sure what the problem is there.
2.)Definitely not tactically simple. That's a common misconception with small army games. Those people are most likely playing on easy.
3.)That's a preference thing and I respect not liking small army size. For this game however I think it works great.
4.)Skirmish mode is a staple of RTS. Not sure what there is to hate about that.
5.)I didn't run into any issues other than the whole Windows Live thing which can be fustrating.
6.)A patch for that was just recently posted.
7.)That truly sucks about 7th AMD Single core processors. I'll agree that's lame-o.
It's true that if you don't like CoH or smaller army sizes then you might not like the game. But for the story line, graphical content, RPG and coop factor, and good online play, then I think they did a great job.» Login to reply to this DanTheMathlete (235) Mar 09, 2009 - 06:01 am | Edited on Mar 09, 2009 - 06:09 am
| Read the reviews on amazon.
1) I have steam, I'm just reporting on my findings. Of course, this is the future of gaming but buyers should be forewarned.
2) They beat it on hardest setting and report that the game boils down to point and click with a few war gear selections being the primary tactical decisions. I have been following DoW2 since the beta and this has been the reported case.
4) I might be mis-quoting, I didn't get all the complaints about skirmish mode either as what you said is true. Maybe its the small number of maps.
5) I already suffer through using a windows OS just so I can game in the first place. A windows DRM just plain sounds scary.
6) I already know how to play my steam games off line it just isn't clear to the average user. (im so above avg it hurts :)
7) SSE2 is pretty old. I mean, come on. That is almost like saying,"They dont support win 98! WTF?!?!" LOL My venice core is 4 or 5 years old now and it supports SSE2.
Also, it seemed that a lot of the ppl complaining didn't online game so that component didn't encourage them in the least.» Login to reply to this |

| I just bought the game yesterday. I gotta say that when I first heard about DoW2 I was really excited about the idea of having the great, large battles from DoW1 with a new engine so I got a little disappointed when I heard that won't really be the case in DoW2.
Nevertheless, based on the first few missions I played, the game seems fun and from what I've heard it seems multiplayer allows for greater battalions than the SP campaign, so I'll be touching that after the SP.
Seems like Relic really wanted to bring the game closer to the actual 40k table game though, where armies tend to be only a few squads large (well, more than 4 usually but still...) and there's a lot of attachment to each squad and cover plays a big role.
It's also kinda obvious that Relic plans on vast expansion of the game, as there are 4 more races in the 40k universe to cover and many more units for each race. So Relic, since it seems you read this forum (which is awesome btw) I hope you'll make the expansions really awesome, adding a lot of new features, just like Dark Crusade did for DoW1.
And I got another awesome idea for you, which may or may not already be on your minds - make an expansion to DoW2 based on the Apocalypse expansion to 40k. It will satisfy all who love large battles and it'll make the game even greater. I realise it would be more like a different game rather than expansion, but not necessarily, you can add more unit slots or sth...or just turn it into DoW3.
Either way, good job trying out something new and I hope future products will add a lot of stuff to the game and increase the scale a bit.» Login to reply to this
