» Combat Arms Review

Nexon's Combat Arms is an online first-person shooter that's free to play, but based on microtransactions with items like additional weapons and attachments costing about $4/month if you choose to purchase them. How does it fare against conventional shooters though? Find out in today's review!

I ashamed of Firingsquad for doing this obligitory review for a game that advertises on your site. If they had not paid you advertising dollars, you would never have reviewed a free p.o.s. like this. I would like to think this is still a grade A review site, not a cheapened B site......guess I'll stop clicking the obligitory ads, like XFX 4890... trying to add to your pot of gold..guess your getting enough from Nexon...

Hold on, Tom, you feel old for playing competitive shooters like this in high school?

Now *I* feel old... Quake came out the summer before my senior year of high school. That's Quake 1, not 3. I even bought the shareware CD to get the NIN tracks. Besides, downloading it on my old 33.6 would not have been a great way to spend the evening. Or the following day.

Doom 2 deathmatch, 2 player, direct dial modem connection. And when we wanted really good latency we'd break out the serial null modem cable and hook up that way. Oh man, those were the days of spending 45 minutes to finally play Doom 2 for 20 minutes before getting told it was time to go to bed...

Although I didn't really get serious about FPS until Quake 2... also why I started coming to FiringSquad, Thresh was a legend back then.

Haha, I totally remember breaking out the serial cable! It took forever to set up but once we got rolling we were playing Doom II, Hexen, and ROTT alllll night.

Bah, you're only beating me by a few years. I was a freshman when Quake came out, but didn't get into PC gaming for at least a year afterwards.

It is interesting to see how PC gaming has evolved over the past 12 years since I really got into it.

My first PC games were Quake and Interstate '76...and I still maintain we are due for a decent remake of the latter.

I would love to see Interstate 76 make a comeback. Also want a proper MechWarrior (not MechAssault). Or hell, even a new mech simulator of any type. Like Earthsiege/Starsiege. Or something completely original.

My first PC games were Wolfenstein 3D, followed by Doom and TIE Fighter. I started gaming on a C64 and Atari 800.

First, I’m incredibly cheap.
^ LOL
I dont play mmorpgs for that very reason. I never purchased equipment for Diablo 2, even though I had friends that did and it was only a few dollars for the best equipment. I just cant bring myself to spend money on video game artifacts. However, making the game free is a good idea and might make me willing to shell out a few bucks since I didnt get hit with the $50 up front. Although, since I am cheap I usually wait awhile, sometimes a long while, before I get a game, I bought doom 3 for $10. So the free version is worth something but I dont know if it will inspire me to spend money since
"second, I believe there is nothing more humiliating than killing someone with their own gun"
especially if that someone paid money to get owned, by me, and then have me own them with their (parents?) hard earned money. I might dl it just for that alone.
