» Gigabyte GV-N275UD-896H GeForce GTX 275 Review

With its 2-ounce copper PCB and 1200MHz memory, Gigabyte's GV-N275UD-896H is one of the first GeForce GTX 275 cards on the market to deviate from NVIDIA's reference design. See how it compares to the stock GTX 275 in today's review!

Did I miss something or is the specific card in this review not really overclocked?

"In terms of clock speeds, Gigabyte clocks their GV-N275UD-896H board at the stock GTX 275 frequencies for the graphics core and stream processors: 633MHz core/1404MHz shaders. The memory is OC’ed slightly however, with Gigabyte opting for 1200MHz memory (2400MHz effective).

This speed is 66MHz higher or about 5% faster than the stock GeForce GTX 275."

Exactly, which is why I wanted to challenge the 250 dollar price point with a competitor's card.

Keep in mind that marketing is 90% perception and 10% product. You can have a garbage product but as long as your customers perceive your product in a positive way, you will make sales.

If nVidia requires review sites to review their cards much more often than they would in a normal product cycle, then those of us who read these articles will have that manufacturer beat into our heads, subconsciously, as the only viable solution for that application.

On firingsquad.com, in the last 6 months out of the 15 graphics card reviews, 10 of them were nVidia and only 5 were ATI/AMD (this excludes the 1 shootout).

Call me what you want, but I think that speaks for itself. Other review sites have even come forward to confess that nVidia pressures them to things "nVidia's way." Maybe it could be called, "the way its meant to be reviewed" or something.

The HD 4770 review didn't even have crossfire numbers for a pair of cards. Its been over a month now, and I know availability is rough for this card, but still...

I have a suggestion/solution that would solve this matter. When reviewing a specialty card (like the Gigabyte card in this review) review a competitors card at the same price in the same review. That way, you know what you can get from nVidia at a price point as well as what ATI/AMD offers at the price point as well.

» Gigabyte Card overheats
just bought the gigabyte GTX 275 and it was running temps around 68 to 75 degrees C when gamming :( so i removed heat sink then unscrewed plastic cover off heat sink, then cut thru the plastic cover and left only the fan, this was screwed back on, then relocated heat sink back on card and installed a $20 dual Fan the type that plugs into a PCI Slot ! as close to heat sink as i could ..... card now runs at 36 degrees C on idle and 43-45 C under game load......Get a MSI or zotac card without the plastic cover all over cooler fins....!!!>

I don't have a review of that particular HIS card planned, but the first reviews of factory OC'ed 4890 cards should go up next month.

Nice. It just seems that everyone is on an nVidia binge lately.

It's included in the benchmarks in this review. Both cards are around the same cost and perform basically identically.. what were you saying again?

The card compared to was a stock 4890, this one is at the same price point and is overclocked. Shall I repeat myself?

Also, I noticed that Catalyst 9.4 was used instead of 9.5. I know the tests were probably run before the new version came out, but the beta has been around for a few weeks...

Did i mention we dont care for fanboyism here?

Did I mention that the last 4 graphics reviews have been nVidia cards? I believe a few of which have been reviewed as reference cards previously. Not sure why you would call asking for a review of a competing product at the same price point a show of fanboyism. I know nVidia has pretty tight restrictions on when reviewers are allowed to review their cards. The result of which would dictate whether the review site (firingsquad for example) would receive future cards in a timely manner (i.e. - in time for the launch of a new card).
