» Nintendo DSi with larger screen announced

Nintendo has announced a new DSi model featuring larger 4.2" dual screens (today's DSi boasts 3.25" screens). The new portable game console will be sold as the DSi LL in Japan, where it will arrive on 11/21 priced at 20,000 yen ($220). In North America and Europe the console will be sold as the DSi XL. Nintendo has announced 3 colors so far, natural white, wine red, and dark brown.

In addition to announcing the new DSi variant, Nintendo also revised their profit forecast downward by 23%, to $2.5 billion. More details can be found at Venture Beat.

I guess I don't get why people are upset. Sure, it may have been nice to wait for this I suppose, but the games aren't any different. The reason you buy a DS in the first place are the games anyway. The resolution stays the same, it's just easier for some to see the image. I don't see the big deal.

That's like buying a 4800 card a few months ago and then being pissed the 5800 series was announced. If you always wait for the next revision you'd never buy anything.

still waiting for them to put a smash bros on the system until that happens i pass on the DS

BTW Labotimizer i did that, i bought 2 4890s only to hear the 5870s would arrive a few months later. Anyway i got two 4890s for around the same price as one 5870 so its no big deal and they perform better then a single 5870. However i dont get dx11 so yeah its sucks. bad timing i guess.

Also that 23% is a pretty big number. It finally means the Wii popularity created by it always being out of stock has ended and the price cuts by Sony and Microsoft have had an effect.

so i heard that this is targeted at those that are older and/or visually impaired... it makes sense, especially considering the jumbo stylus.

also, i felt better after realizing that the resolution isn't changing, so the image will actually be a bit worse.

» Screwed
Apparently I'm not the only one feeling screwed here, having just bought a DSi for my daughter. Thanks Nintendo for joing the ranks of other companies that rip us off. This is seriously getting ridiculous.

Clearly it is to fend off the market stealing PSP. I mean who would want a crappy DSi when you can buy a PSP and download all the games you want off of the Sony store. No need to drive down to the store you just. Need to make an online accout and trust that your kid doesn't start using the accout that is saved to the PSP.
