From Terrance Roff, Oakland California.
As a fanatic gamers and driver of this sim I saw a pretty good
review of the current king of driving sims. I liked the review but
I think the reviewer missed a few things.
First off, my system:
AMD Athelon 1700+ 512 MB on a top end MSI MB..Sound: SBLive 1.5
gamer addition. Video Nvidea GForce 4 MX440 64 MB AGP(Predator line)
WinXP. A solid system home built for gaming on a budget.
Thrustmaster NASCAR pro forcefeedback wheel and pedals (if your
playing driving sims having the right tools is a must
Wheel and pedals are indeed listed as recomeended optimal
equipment. I think the reviewer missed that on the box. The game
manual how ever is not the most complete and does assume prior
Papyrus sim experience and that is a problem for a new user. The
games readme file fills in some of the holes, especially on how to
coax the best video performance out of the sim.
I run at almost full detail level leaving things some shadows off.
Even in the pack my framerates rarely fall below the 30 and usually
stick in the 45-50 fps range. I'm running atThis is online or off.
I do use the DirectX video modes and the only other option for me is
OpenGL which just doesn't work as well as it should. Seeing I run
at a 1024x768 32 bit I haven't a clue why the reviewer may have had
problems. Its one of those high end games where you need to read
all documentation o your not going to extract the best performance
from a technical standpoint out of the game.
Quake gamers do mods and so do Papy simmers.. We got some in the
works in the community for Busch series cars, Trucks series, Trans
Am series(which h

Just an update,... a patch will be released shortly and when that
happens the "Trans Am Mod" will be availble,.... that
means road courses with realistic physics. - also, the BGN series
and the CTS series (trucks).
For me, racing on-line against 40 other human-beings in a rock-solid
simulation is the main attraction of this package.
If you truly love racing, NR2003 should not be missed.

hmm, why comparing this to a ps2 game gran turismo... maybe you can
compare with f1 2003 orso, but gran turismo?? hmm its quite
different, not a good compare to me.
as i find the nascar boring and really irritating. ovals etc..
anyway, i'm visiting here for about 3years and i like it very much..
greetings

Jakub was out of his element reviewing this game. He completely
missed the fact that NR2K3 Season has new "adaptive A.I."
and you can set up the A.I. to adjust their ability in accordance
with your performance. This second feature must be turned on by the
user and only works in a Championship Season. It doesn't work in
individual races or testing sessions. This is a huge change from
every previous version of NASCAR Racing. When activated it makes it
difficult if not impossible over a full season to either win easily
or lose easily.

I haven't played this particular game myself, BUT:
Why didn't this game receive a bullseye reward? Isn't it the most
outstanding game in it's genre?
(though I have played earlier racing-sims from Papyrus and they have
always been the best of the best, without any real competition
considering both physics and detail)

To give a throwback into the whole nascar discussion, anyone played
Nascar Racing by Papyrus from 6-7 years ago? It was really fun, and
had great physics and damage modelling, and ran well on my Pentium
75.
Another great thing about this game is that you can custom-paint the
car bodies, I love if games have this feature. So, I would model
the paint-jobs to look like Formula 1 cars, and gave the drivers
Formula 1 drivers' names. Show me a current racing title where you
can do that and I'll jump on it. Oh, and I would never race on the
ovals, Watkins Glen was the track of choice for me.

Don't forget to mention the 100's of different rims you can buy in
GT3, great selection, though it throws me off that it has Dunlop,
Yokohama and Bridgestone -branded rims, which is false, since they
are only boot-makers (tires). Though, the rims are cheap at $500,
you can buy'em all.

Cars in GT3 are ultra detailed, no other game on any platform has
better looking cars yet. GT4 has slightly better looking cars, but
mostly they improved the backgrounds. Polyphony Digital are
perfectionist, with a lot of $$$, that is why it will take a long
time for someone to ever come close to GT standards, imagine having
a selection of 500+ ultra detailed cars that you can upgrade too.
