wow, the Radeon 8500 outperforms a 9500, and is within 15 fps of a
9500 Pro when AA isn't involved....very impressive.

To disable sound in Call of Duty you must first disable sound hard
through windows hardware. Then the following:
Open file pak0.pk3 with winrar,
extract file configure_mp.cfg
open configure_mp.cfg with notepad
edit line set mss_errorOnMissing "1" to set
mss_errorOnMissing "0"
save file
add configure_mp.cfg back into pak0.pk3
You can now run without sound and this will also work on Windows 64
(2003/xp/longhorn) when drivers are not available

Thank you so much for this article. It was exactly what I was hoping
to find. COD brings my GF4 6400 to its knees rendering objects
(soliders) in black after about 30 mins of play (both mp and sp). I
have been freting over which card to buy to run COD at 800 X 600 X
32. Now I have the information I need to make my purchase.
YOU RULE!

I assume this is avg framerate. This is fairly useful.
However including the min framerate would probably be even more
useful. The min framerate tells you if you will have slowdowns.

I just bought a 9800 Pro 128mb for about $300 (USD) and it seems
that CoD needs 256mb at some settings.
Using "extra" general texture settings, my FPS drop
significantly.
I playing at 1280x1024 using 2x AA and 8x AF.
Perhaps I should've shelled out anothre $200 for a 9800XT :(
Durn, these vid cards are getting too expensive :(

second "barely playable" ??? for #$!$& sake...
Are these average frame rates or max?

There is absolutely NO reason for disabling fast writes with the
Catalyst driver versio 3.10. I have played this game a lot lately
and have not encountered any stability issues with the new drivers
(with the previous version 3.9 I wasn't even able to get through the
training mission without the game crashing).
So don't miss out on that extra bit of performance. Keep fast writes
enabled - no problems :)
