» E3 2004 Conclusion and Awards

We have the rest and the best of our E3 coverage finally available. It took much deliberation but we've settled on a best in show PC game and also took a second sober look back at the show itself. As you can tell by the teaser icon, one part of the show most definitely impressed, but not to the exclusion of others.

Nintendo is 3rd rate now. Sony is hanging on, Microsoft is coming on
stronge, for my gaming needs X-Box2 for next gen, all other systems
are 2nd rate dust collectors.

I may be a lot of things, but I am certainly not hypocritical.

Maybe you should look it up, lol.

Honestly guys, you all are getting a bit bent out of shape.

I wouldn't take the opinion of a guy who considers Dream Theater
good music too seriously.

Hypocrisy. Look it up.

Anyway, I have to say the Dragon Age article really needed some
pictures (if they aren't available, you should have brown nosed some
more, we wouldn't ask :).

And to add my own experiences with overdone sim realism...I still
remember being given su-27 flanker (1.0) as a gift years ago,
needless to say my attempts at playing involved lots of head
scratching and crashing into the ground...lots and lots of
crashing..(I eventually managed flying, fighting successfully
however, proved several magnitudes more difficult..making the game
impossible for me :p). In short, realism is fun and important to a
degree, its just not fun or important enough that it should make a
game have a learning curve of DAYS instead of hours.

Vehicles being reduced from 6 to 4 doesn't make it more newbish, it
makes it less newbish by focusing less on overpowered vehicular
combat and more on the skillful infantry stuff that Tribes has
always done. Infantry have jetpacks and skiing anyways, vehicles are
just support, and certainly aren't needed for transportation. A good
skiier in T:V should go faster than any in Tribes 2; the ski speed
cap is out, though it takes more skill to get those high speeds.
Vehicles = slower than good infantry players, according to the T:V
devs. So this combined with their superior manueverability means
that vehicles are not completely dominating or necessary as they are
in BF, hence less vehicles does not mean the game is more newbish.

Dang, with my anonymousness nobody will probably even see this.

There were 10 to 12 DS machines on display and their lineups were an
hour or more long. And if you think the sequels to Metroid &$&$!%$
Prime and Pikmin are of no interest to gamers than you aren't a very
good journalist.

Nintendo had nothing of interest, sorry. There was a lineup for the
DS and that's it. Maybe if you judge the GameCube compared to the
N64 it's a success, but not otherwise.

"If you're gonna talk about consoles at least make
an effort to pretend to be interested in all of
them. Jerks."

Hillarious! I see it all the time, but it's still so amusing to see
people get so bent over a little plastic box connected to your TV.
The world is much bigger place my friend, open your eyes. Someone's
opinion about a toy means nothing.

I don't come to FiringSquad to read stupid biased opinions. I have
enough of those myself.

If you guys didn't get all haughty and preach about you have some
sort of better brand of journalism maybe you could get away with a
half-@ssed job.

Congruency. Look it up.

#5 - I was there and all I have to say in response to your post is
Wrong wrong wrong. Metroid Prime 2, Paper Mario 2, Tales Of
Symphonia, Starfox, Resident Evil 4 (holy crap it looked/played
great, and I hate the RE series), Viewtiful Joe 2, the Lord Of The
Rings RPG, not to mention the video they had of the new Zelda, there
were plenty of great games in the Nintendo area. And thankfully they
didn't have those walls to cramp in the crowd this year.

Full disclosure: I own all three current consoles (and a high
powered PC for gaming), and to say that Nintendo had nothing great
to show at E3 is absolutely ridiculous. Of course, I can expect
nothing less ever since CalBear left.
