| | (Post a comment) » ATI RADEON X800 XL Performance PreviewDo you like the performance of the GeForce 6800 GT, but its $400 price tag is a bit too much to swallow? Perhaps ATI's RADEON X800 XL is for you then! It features a 16-pixel pipeline architecture, just like the 6800 GT, only it runs 50MHz faster and also has 1.0GHz memory. But the part you'll really love is the price...How does $300 sound? See how it compares to the 6800, 6800 GT, RADEON X800 PRO/XT as well as overclocking in this article! | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

I wish both ATI and Nvidia would change their frickin' naming
schemes. XT, XL, SE who the hell knows anymore. You have to bring
firingsquad with you to the store to buy a card nowadays.

sad to say but the driver issue is still the same. i cant play old
games or even recently released games without having to switch
official drivers. i ended up using the hacked omega radeon drivers
which is a pain to update. if ati would just document how to modify
the windows registry keys so that i can manually input settings for
features of their high end cards that are disabled by their catalyst
drivers. optimize my bum! im going back to nvidia.

Hey - it beats the X850pro most of the time, which is clocked
considerably higher than the X800pro, my guess is that the X800XL
does in fact beat the X800pro. Look at the benchmarks

I understand the need to move to pci-e. What about the people that
have recently bought a new motherboard with agp? Such BS.

I would have to say that the XL800 PCI-E would be the better buy
even though it has slower clock speeds. It also has 16 Pipes instead
of the vanilla X800 12 Pipes. I figure it would be a &@!%$%$$ buy
for me since I just upgraded to the PCI-Express system. $300 bucks
ain't bad for a newer more advanced/but slower X800 card. This is
what I have been waiting for...

They only run the memory at 350mhz (700 effective) because it's DDR1
memory. Once you go much faster than that you gotta use DDR3, which
is more expensive.

It wouldn't be a problem for anyone building a new system though.
The X800 vanilla has 12 pipes @ 400mhz core, which is a decent
amount faster than the 6800 vanilla (325mhz).
At $200 it makes the X700 and 6600GT obsolete, at least on the PCIe
front.

too bad the x800 isnt AGP. Notice how the memory is only clock at
350(700 effective). I bet it has a great overclocking potential.
