| | (Post a comment) » Sapphire TOXIC X700 PRO ReviewLooking for a mainstream card that performs well yet runs virtually silent? If so, then you may want to check out Sapphire's TOXIC X700 PRO. The card is based on ATI's proven RADEON X700 PRO and sports an exotic graphics cooler. But that's not all, via Sapphire's A.P.E. utility, the card can be automatically overclocked to speeds approaching ATI's now defunct RADEON X700 XT. See how this board performs in comparison to the competition in this review! | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

The numbers I see have the Toxic w/APE outperforming the standard
Toxic in all tests in Far Cry. I think you're comparing the RADEON
X700 Pro 256MB to the 128MB X700 Pro Toxic. Those are two different
cards with different memory amounts...
There are plenty of cases where overclocking has lead to reduced
performance, a BIOS flash was required with early 6800 Ultra Extreme
boards because of performance issues in titles such as DOOM 3, early
GeForce FX 5800 Ultra boards also had problems. High-end cards are
beginning to adopt power/thermal management, so clock throttling
will begin to become a potential problem as well.

Just want to echo what s/he said. The Far Cry and HL2 numbers both
show APE performing slower than the Toxic without APE. Overclocking
should never reduce performance, unless they're really modifying the
memory latencies or something. I'm guessing that the names on the
graphs are just backwards, but either way they look messed up.
Also, since we're dealing with 128MB cards on several of these, it
would be interesting to see how they perform in a couple games at
High instead of Very High quality (i.e. Far Cry). In use, there's
not a dramatic difference in quality that I can see.

Guys, there's something wrong with the Far Cry numbers. I mean,it
seems illogical that when A.P.E is enabled (and thus the card is
overclocked, the card loses 40+ fps! (FarCry - Volcano for
instance). So I would appreciate a word from you concerning this.

ZipZoomFly has an X800XL for $400 and the price has been slowly
falling over the last week or so(it was $410 yesterday and $430 a
few days ago)
Keep in mind the 6800GT PCI-E generally costs more than $450 so this
is still cheaper

Speaking of "now", why would you even get this card when
the 6600GT is faster?
Do people really play Halo on the PC?

the sad part is this....
The X800XL pci-express board is listed as $425.00 at
AllStarShops.com. The suggested retail price of this board is
supposed to be $299 give or take. The demand for this card is soo
high people are willing to pay anything for the better card even
though the retailer is totally ripping them off. ATi has their
thumbs up their asses on dishing out the wrong production cards to
the masses. It makes me ill as well.

What a weird product segment plan.
Hey guys, here's 2 cards that cost nearly the same amount, one
offers 50% more performance then the other.... let's put the slower
one into full scale production 1 month before the other one arrives.
Seriously..WTF were they thinking?

The X800XL looks to be the most attractive at the moment...that is,
if you could actually buy any of these cards at the MSRP.

How do you benchmark Halo with 4xAA and 8xAF? I thought you couldn't
enable those features for the game.
