| | (Post a comment) » RADEON X800 XL RoundupWith 16 pipes, a 400MHz core with 256MB of 500MHz memory, and most importantly of all, a $299 price tag, ATI's RADEON X800 XL is the card of choice right now. But which X800 XL card is best? That's where today's article comes in. We've gathered six of the top RADEON X800 XL cards on the market right now. Manufacturers include ATI, ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, PowerColor, and Sapphire. Some cards have dual DVI and VIVO, while the Gigabyte card runs completely silent! See how the cards stack up against one another, as well as the GeForce 6800 and 6800 GT, and don't forget the overclocking! | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

Hi there - excellent review of currently available X800 XL cards,
but I'm a little unclear on one thing. I'm looking for a card to fit
in a Shuttle system but want it to be as quiet as possible. Which
can be made to run quieter, the ASUS version or the MSI version of
this card? I was under the impression that if the ASUS card was set
to run its fan constantly at 30% using SmartDoctor, it would run
quieter than the MSI card. Is this so? What are the noise levels of
the two cards comparitively for the same cooling? Or, indeed, is the
table on the first page of this article, which ranks the MSI card
very high in terms of noise but the ASUS card very low, accurate?

How does the X800 XL stack up against the X800 XT Platinum Edition
in AGP? I'm just curious because that's what I own, but all these
X800 monikers floating about, it's hard to tell what's what anymore.
Why don't they just use different names damnit?!? Seriously!

Is this available in AGP? I was gonna get a 6800GT next month, but
this came along so I might get this... or should I wait for the next
gen of cards... will the next gen even be available in AGP? Oh so
confusing!

13: "I'm looking forward to SC: CT *og* NASCAR Racing
being added..." Looks like we have a Great Dane in the house,
eh? (For those that don't know, "og" is Danish for
"and" - it's pronounce like "oh" as the g is
silent.)
This language lesson was brought to you by the country that makes
the best pastries in the world. (How I miss being able to head over
to the local bakery and pick up a trekant, studentebroed,
kanelstang, osv.)

Cut the guy some slack.
If you look at pricewatch there are only 3 retailers within $25 of
the MRSP of $299. Far more are at $350+ and up over $400. Retailers
had also been overcharging on the cards for WEEKS. Just a couple
weeks ago I could not find one under $400.
So while you could find a handful NOW, this has not been the case.
When you consider that this card was paper launched a long, long
time ago in a galaxy far, far away I feel a little more sympathetic
toward those cranky toward the entire X800XL fiasco.
The good news is that it is finally here and will soon be available
in good quantities from dozens of retailers. And at the price it is
a great deal for people with PCIe.

"and most importantly of all, a $299 price tag"
Man am I sick to hear about that $299 price tag... Just show me one
place that sells X800XL at that price! That's total nonsense. In
reality those cards go for way more than that at the moment. I
don't think the X800XL deserves any points for selling cheap when in
fact it doesn't.
