| | (Post a comment) » EVGA e-GeForce 6800 AGP ReviewWith street prices falling rapidly, GeForce 6800 cards can be increasingly found for $200. EVGA's e-GeForce 6800 is one such example, with Newegg offering the card for $200 after mail-in rebate. In this review we've paired the EVGA board against older cards, such as the RADEON 9500 PRO and GeForce FX 5900, as well as newer cards. See how it stacks up to the others in today's review! | Previous news article | Back to main news | Next news article |

you're a $$$%%@. the point is the 6800 is the best value at the
$200 price point. are you forgetting that for the $300 you spent on
the X800XL you could have got a 6800GT?

The 256 meg version of this card is $300.
Hmmmm, I just bought an X800XL 256meg board for $300 and the X800XL
blew the pants off this board in his benchmarks. Wonder who's the
fool?

In fact, the modification needed to unlock the pipes and the extra
vertex shader in 6800 AGP cards is completely done in software as a
Softmod. Reports don't even descrive temperature increasing.
Basically, you turn on the pipes, see if you get artifacting. Turn
on the vetex shader and try to same thing. I have NEVER heard of
anyone damaging their cards in this way, and I've heard from quite a
few people. Since it is only a softmod, I don't see how the card
could even potentially be damaged. Installing RivaTuner is the best
way to get the job down. When you uninstall it, the card goes back
to normal. There's a more complete guide on anantech somewhere.
Again, I have NEVER heard of a single case where the 6800 card was
permenantly damaged while attampting the softmod.

i waited for 6800 to drop back down to 200 for so long, then got a
evga 6600gt instead for 160. i figured i'll just lower the res if
and when it bogs down.
i chose the evga over xfx because they looked to have a better
rebate form, i didnt hear of any memory/heat issues with the evga's
and because i don't like my computer parts coming in "X"
boxes...
i also heard that many 6600gts shoulnt be handled by their heatsinks
or they might get chipped gpu cores. i once again just
"assumed" evga wouldnt let this happen to me. all the
praise for evga's service makes me think i might have made the right
choice, although im getting no free games :|
could've used this review a while ago, and with more detail
especially on the unlocking, but i guess someone at FS just upgraded
finally. if thats so i wish you bums the best.

the extra pipe unlocking wasn't mentioned because it is too eassy to
completely trash a standard 6800 when trying to unlock the extra
pipes.

what is better about the bundle with the leadtek that makes it worth
$20 more than the evga? I will take the evga for the quality of the
card and heatsink and level of customer support AND the lower price
any day.
